I have a sty :(
I have a sty (i think).
The corner of my eyelid is swollen but there isn't a little spot (i think it may be under the lid, but I am too much of a wimp to pull it up to find out).
It is absolutely agonising.
I have tried the teabag and rubbing gold on it but it isn't helping in the slightest.
I have the muppets night out on Tuesday and don't fancy walking about with a gammy yak. Anything else I can try?
TIA
Claire

PS Eye Pavillion prob not 24/7, so you'd prob have to go to A&E at Little France anyway.

If it really start to annoy you, cool the area around it by wrapping an ice cube in a paper towel. It just eases the swelling a little and that eases the scratchiness of it.
Used to suffer badly when younger due to hay fever.
Cheers

Chip, I really can't be bothered with the docs.

Causes
Like any other boil, they just happen. If you are getting boils on a regular basis you should have it checked out, as conditions like diabetes make you more susceptible to them.
Prevention
There is no way of preventing a stye.
Complications
In the past, people were quite aggressive in dealing with styes and would even cut into the lid margin to allow them to drain. There was a real danger of scarring, which then scratched the eye each time the person blinked. This treatment is now very uncommon.
Self care
Compresses made from clean, white, cotton cloth soaked in warm water and pressed against the stye are painful but do help bring the stye to a head. Some people then advise removing the eyelash next to the stye, allowing the pus to drain. This doesn't always work and can be very painful. The stye will burst on its own, often during sleep
More information
Antibiotics are of little value and the stye will invariably clear without them.
Note
Avoid wearing contact lenses, especially the soft or permeable types, while you have any kind of eye infection.

Best to use cotton wool/ear bud and do hot compress
May even be a blocked tear duct if in the corner of your eye lid
Do you wear contact lenses?
Just pop into the opticians and they should have a look at it for you
