Its purely curiousity at this point, but quite like the idea of working in the States for a while.
Ive done a search on how to apply for a green card etc, and it doesnt turn up anything, so was hoping someone on here would have details on costs, who to speak to, how to apply, and how long its likely to take.

From the UK it seems to be very difficult, I looked in to this a number of years ago. From what I could find out you need to have a job offer from a US firm in which case they will sort it all out for you. If you don't have a job offer you need to prove that you have an essential skill and that usually needs to be supported by a Masters Degree or PhD.

If you are a student and were going to be travelling and doing the odd bit of bar work and the like then I think that is a different issue. I gave up on it all in the end

Yes it can be a nightmare. You not even guarantied one if you marry an American.
