We are thinking of getting a new tropical tank, got rid of mine years ago so fancy another, there probably a really good reason not to but could we put or existing two small Goldfish in with Tropical fish, Neons and the like.

Like I said, probably a good reason not to but what would happen, its a 2 foot tank and I would like to get rid of the goldfish bowl.

My thoughts are that the Goldfish would grow more quickly due to not having to regulate their own temperature due to the tropical temperatures plus they would eat and excrete more ?

goldfish don't like warm water. cold water fish are used to the higher oxygen concentration that cooler water supports. some will not tolerate even a fairly modest rise in temperature, but goldsish are generally quite robust - you might find they can hack it. however, i ould be inclined to keep the goldfish and the tropicals separate. can't you donate them to a friend or something, if you don't want to keep them?

I've had Goldfish in my tank before but nothing lasts long when Dog gets hungry.
