Exhaust noise limit?

Exhaust noise limit?
Does anyone know what the maximum noise level coming from an exaust is allowed by law?
I would love to fit a straight through exhaust (literally, a S/S pipe) after the center silencer.
I have a feeling its going to be loud (this is a good thing!) but how loud is too loud?
Hope you can help!

After a few posts on here regarding complaints from neighbours and local council intervention, any exhaust which isn't supplied by the original manufacturer and "E" marked can be classified as a noise nuisance, requiring a trip to an MOT testing station for db testing. Don't know the figures but I believe it's tested at 1m and a 45º angle, and it's quite strict. And it's all at your expense.
Do it if your neighbours are easy going.
