Default Lord of the Rings

What a load of tripe.
How this trilogy is up there with Ben Hur , Chariots of Fire etc amazes me.
Hammy acting , diabolical script , same endless battle scenes , what a yawn !- the New Zealand scenery was great though.

Not Harry Potter for a start!
OK has to have a powerful story , translated into a quality script ,obviously actors that fit the characters , thought provoking ,entertaining
But to answer your question :
The Godfather Trilogy
Goodfellas
Gangs of New York
The Usual Suspects
The Shining
As Good as it Gets
Raging Bull
Scent of a Woman
The Gold Rush
Life of Brian
Its a Wonderful Life
Dances with Wolves
Remains of the Day
American Beauty
2001 a Space Odyssey
2010

The story was padded out - the trilogy could easily have been made into a standard feature length movie.
The script such as it was pretty ordinary
The actors were hammy and overly emotive.
I don't find watching endless computer generated images of extreme violence that entertaining.
No surprise at the end - Even if you had'nt read the book , it was obvious that the ring would be destroyed and with it the armies.
For me , Boring.

Film is Art, its supposed to be subjective and to ones personal taste. Most people I know loved the Rings trilogy, the fact in won loads of Oscars certainly does not make it a great film, if the public in their droves like it and the critics agree it stands a chance of being at least half decent.

Look at Titanic, that was voted worst film by J,Ross, yet millions loved it and it won multiple Oscars.

Personal top 3 are;-

Big Wednesday
Escape from Presinct 13
Two Lane Black-Top

There was no hammy acting in gangs of new york at all then ?

LOTR is the greatest film trilogy ever made the critics reaction and box office record prove the point just becuse you don't like it doesn't make it rubbish it just makes you stupid. Next you will tell me that Brian leaving westlife isn't the worst thing to happen to music since boney M stopped making records.

Luan

Think you've made yourself look rather stupid yourself... as it's all down to personal taste ...

Even someone stupid like me can see that

It was my way of pointing out the idiocy of describing one of the most popular films ever as 'tripe' or a 'load of bollocks' labeling someone stupid becuase they don't agree with me is the same as labeling something tripe becuase It wasn't to my personal taste.

Sorry, but they're all utter cack - a far cry from the quality of the material they were derived from. B0llocks from start to finish.

Just because they're popular doesn't make them good - by that reasoning Cliff Richard is a top musician and the Ford Escort is a top car and they're not are they?

Although if you like LOTR you probably think they are!!!

Nothing will please everyone!!

If you think its rubbish or you think its good then so be it, everyone has different tastes, this what makes the world interesting......... but if you dress up as one of the characters & start learning elf then your definitely sad

Cliff Richard must be good because that’s down to personal taste (personally I do not like his music) however the escort is popular because it comes down to available finances, not becuase it such a great car. If your referrig to personal taste, the escort wouldn't be in the top 1,000,000,000

My personal opinion is I enjoyed the trilogy! What anyone else thinks I personally do not care

phew,

I was thinking there was something wrong with me and that I was the only person on the whole planet who doesnt like these films! That gives me comfort at least, I wouldnt say they were bad just over-hyped, but then Im not really into the dungeons n dragons/fantasy books/films anyway, although I would put highlander in my top 5.

Cliff richard is good he sold more singles than anyone else and his performance at wimbledon was sheer class. The true test of a music man is to be able to pick up your instrament and do your thing any time any place he did it the crowd loved it and he proved himself a natural born artist and performer. Sir CLiff and Peter Jackson I salute you both.

now where did my hobbit costume go. ..

to me both films belong in the realms of fantasy , i love both and for people to call lotr rubbish is very narrow minded , perhaps these people have no imagination ! [ ducks for cover !! ]

Agree to a point although its very pretentious to think that everyone within earshot particularly wants to listen. I think hes a pr*ck but cant argue with his monumental acheivements in the world of pop music.

The books are rather turgid IMO, a bit of a ball ache comapred to other fiction. The Hobbit is a far more enjoyable read.

And them being popular DOES make them good, in the eyes of the people who like them. Not for you though. They are neither, they are what you thinkn of them. It is a pointless argument.
