Question coupe or coupe

Is it pronounced "coupé" as in "soup" or "coupé" as in "toupee" ?

Some say it one way some it the other, myself i'm a "coupé" as in toupee kinda guy.
The dictionary says
Main Entry: cou·pé
Variant(s): or coupe /kü-'pA, 2 often 'küp/
Function: noun
Etymology: French coupé, from past participle of couper to cut, strike
1 : a four-wheeled closed horse-drawn carriage for two persons inside with an outside seat for the driver in front
2 usually coupe : a 2-door automobile often seating only two persons; also : one with a tight-spaced rear seat

I would say it depends if you're American or English. I believe Americans say Coupe like 'soup' - listen to 'Little Deuce Coupe' by The Beach Boys. In England it's said the other way - 'Coop-Ay'.

Could be wrong though....

To say 'coop' (as in a place to keep chickens) reflects the fact that the Americans have neither class nor good taste, let alone a facility for European languages.

Oops hang on that could mean any of us this side of the pond too - ahh but we have TVR; so all is well!

The French accent grave indicates an 'ehh' as in Fiat Coupehh

Isn't it the 'acute' accent and not the 'grave'? Coupé

That clears up another muddled spot in my head. I always thought the Americans had simply abbreviated the word Coupe (Coopay) to Coop out of their sheer laziness. Apparently it's just their sheer ignorance of the spoken language that's to blame.
