Default cleaning carpet

hi

so im selling my house soon, but my muddy size 15s have taken their toll on the carpet and kinda let the house down a bit.

could anyone advise - i understand my options are:
* rent one of those industrial strength carpet vacuum things
* hire someone to come in and clean the carpet

ive tried all the "commercial" products like vanish etc etc and they've made it a little better, but not even close to good. so i need something stronger.

what has everyone else used? what are the typical costs, and were you happy with the results?

house is 3 bed, and it's only the upstairs that has carpets. downstairs is laminate flooring. which reminds me.. how do u get chips out of laminate flooring?

I use a combination of a VAX for a general carpet clean and a Polti for spot cleaning the tough stuff. You can probably hire commercial kit that is equivalent that will do as good if not better job. I have hired people in but results (as with anything) can be variable, the secret (as always) is to find somebody good that you are happy with. If they are bad you can end up making things worse.

Best thing for chipped laminate floors? A nice rug! Honestly there isn't much you can do with chipped laminate other than hide it.

When I left a property just over a month ago, I hired a carpet cleaner from HSS hire. I think it was £21 plus vat for a day. The domestic/cheapest one is fine for cleaning a house, you need to buy the cleaning fluid from them too. (I also used it to clean my sofa).
Check their website for further info and you get a £5 discount for arranging online too.
(I hope this isn't classed as advertising).

There are also lots of local companies that will clean for you, but the costs are obviously higher.

I used the ones you hire from Safeway's. It did a great job. We have also paid and had poor jobs. One was a local boy the other was Chem dry. The ones at safeway (rugdocter) have brushes that hammer the carpet, it took a couple of goes but it came up like new.
Don't buy the rug doctor cleaner, buy the Vax stuff. It's half the price and we had no problem with foaming.
