Is Britain crazy?
Hello
From http://uk.news.yahoo.com/040217/325/em96k.html:
So, Britain would be (and probably still is) the only EU country who will welcome the influx of cheap labour. How completely stupid.
Steve.
From http://uk.news.yahoo.com/040217/325/em96k.html:
Until now, Britain and Ireland were the only EU countries to say they would impose no restrictions on their labour markets on citizens from the mostly ex-communist accession states.

Why on earth we can't devise a system similar to Oz is beyond me!
It's not like they are even over crowed in a country that size, yet they still regulate intake of people.
For instance: if you have a skill that Britain needs then you are in, if not then tough!
PS Don't get me started on asylum!

Its because we are carrying a lot of thick lazy people in this country who vote for the party they perceive as most likely to give them freebies and handouts. Invariably this means that said party will also be in favour of nanny state policies aswell as making no distinction between our own countrymen and illegal immigrant bludgers when it comes to giving out those handouts.

According to the Sunday Times, the population growth is slowing down so rapidly here that we will need to proactively encourage immigration in order to keep the economy going, if not there may not be enough taxes to pay out state pensions in a few generations.
This is all open to perception, but it did say that Scotland currently encourages immigration.

Officials are/ have been stating there is a labour shortage in this country- its when u start to look at where these shortages are and in what sectors it gets scary- u could argue effectively that the Uk is a true european/ global free market labour economy where our wage levels/skill levels etc attract peoples from lesser economies to wk here in skilled jobs for less pay and unskilled jobs for pay UK citizens wouldnt get out of bed for..... add to that the reduction in children born per couple & the huge increase in weath needed to support old people, it stacks up nicely for the Govnt.
I do hope that there will be a positive backlash against the shortsighted/ I want everything now sector of 18yr old+ english people who one day may wk out that u do need to get an education then wk your way up through the job mkt- not expect to earn 25K for turning up in the morning with a bull**** degree/ or some other phoney qualification.

We managed to have a strong economy with less people in the past. Why must we now pack our little island to plague proportions in order to remain economincally viable?

Saw on the telly last night that once Poland join the EU (sometime this year I think) then there is going to be a huge influx of polish medical staff to the UK. Currently a paedatrician in Poland earns £5k. Here they will earn £50k+. A recruitment agency has already been over there signing them all up to bring them here. The NHS is in such a poor state here with incredibly underskilled staff (speaking from experience) that I fully welcome these skilled and experienced people to come here and replace the dross we currently have. Time the lazy scum in this country got off their fat lazy ar$es and tried to earn their money or be replaced with more skilled and harder working foreigners
I just hope it doesn't have an adverse effect on the Polish health system with all their top skilled staff coming to this country causing a lack of skill to deal with ill children in their own country

Of course the Poles will suffer if they lose all their doctors etc. If we are short then make sure that more Brits find it worthwhile to enter the medical profession. Just moving problems from one country to another unfairly.

Les thats sort of what I was getting at but the fact is £50k for being a paediatrician isnt exactly a small salary is it. So how do we make it more attractive for school leavers to go to uni and study and qualify for such professions? It cant be money based when it pays £50k a year. I think its more a case of the road they have to take to get that job/qualifications. The Poles for example seem to be plentiful in skilled and experienced Paediatricians. We have to ask ourseleves why is it that these people can be so much better at what they do from a country that is supposed to be less developed/wealthy than our own?
