Thumbs up

Nice house, a bit too open for my personnal taste. I'd seen these HUF houses advertised in the self-build mags and thought they were expensive but I never realised that you got absolutely everything with them, a concrete slab to a water tight building in only 4 days

John.

I missed how much it was. What did it cost then? Lovely house. Very funky for an old couple

Knowing the area (Esher), with that land, it's probably instantly worth over a million!!!

Best case for joining the Euro I've seen. It exposed the sloppyness of the British way of working nicely. They almost ruined the pour and then were 5 hours late on site with the crane.

Repect to the Germans there...

Amazing to see it all put together so quickly. Not my taste, but well done to them.

Well I'm an architect and I am currently working with several companies from Denmark/Germany/Norway - they put all UK based construction/sub-contractors to shame.

I will always look to Europe now for special materials/workers.

LOL at the German builder

was asked how many houses they had put up in the UK and if it was OK to do. His main complaint was that breakfast was far too late for them !
Quality work. the orig 6 days would have been impressive but 4 !!!
Respect
The factory was something else ! House pannels delivered to the site with door handles, blinds the lot !all in place

Some of the Brit contractors were embarassing, but give credit to the crane driver. No mean task to work with guys in another language and using different hand signals - he was very good.

I thought the house was stunning - very unique. It is certainly a credit to the builders. The interior was pretty special. Not all of it was to my taste, but there were some fabulous bits of furniture and design.

I want one

£450k you say? Any idea how much they paid for the plot?

I've always fancied the idea of a self-build, but loathed the concept of living in a caravan for 2 years. This seems like the ideal solution. And £450k isn't that far into cloud cuckoo land.

Carl

They'd lived on the plot for 40+ years. Tore down the bungalow they'd built 40 years ago to build the new house. @ 70.

I hope I have half the imagination at that age !

And they'd worked hard all their lives and saved up the money. Nobody does that anymore. These days it's all done on credit or borrowing, so you don't really own anything.

Was amazed when the Forman made them tear down the tiling in the Kitchen as the grout width was 1mm wider on one side.

Quality work again from the Germans.

Question

It was a lovely house, and their choice of colours made it even more special. However, why did they leave the mobile home in the rear garden??? It cheapened the plot and spoilt the view form the back garden.
