Myself and a few colleagues were pulled in today for abusing the email system and asked if we knew the policy, abusing loosely translates as using it for personal emails. The managment had gone through five years worth of emails highlighting all the personal ones in pink pen, my email follder was over a gig so some poor sod had to read several thousand emails !

Apart from the invasion of privacy I feel quite pleased that they had to read the bloody lot to give us a minor ticking off, they presented us with some choice examples, generally these were quite old but still excruciatingly emabrassing.

It was done in a sympathetic way and there is no further action and no record with personnel so I am not worried but after a day recovering several databases I though I was being taken aside to be thanked for my skill and effort and it was actually a minor bollocking that would have been better served by an email stating the policy and making it clear they knew who the offenders were (i.e. almost everyone). Perfect end to a perfect day.

Anybody else had similar tellings off ?

Not happened to me, but then I am the IT manager!

I am a ghost on the system, no email or web logs in my name thank you!

You better make sure they're not checking the web logs next!

ajm, been down that route so am very carefull, though I dont see why checking BBC at lunchtime is a problem ?

Just wait till I get home as I have broadband anyway.

Its amazing we get bollocked for the email usage yet there are people there that make a career out of doing f**k all and playing the system.

Different culture at our company (construction company)... the gits know I get an email every time they try and hit a **** site so they do it on purpose to try and fill my mailbox up!

Even the MD has a selection of jpegs!
