Tolkien spent some of his last years in Bournmouth. His wife Edith liked the Miramar Hotel and holidayed there in the late 50s and early 60s. from 1968 to the end of 1971 the tolkiens moved to bornemouth (19 Lakeside Road)from their Oxford home in Sandfield Road. he moved back to oxford after his wife died in september 1971
