To get there in a car you'll need to use the Steam Packet ferry company. Very expensive during TT fortnight (last week of May to first week of June), pretty reasonable the rest of the year.

There's loads of B&B's all over the Island, as well as hotels in the main towns.

Again, avoid TT fortnight as you'll be hard pushed to find a bed anywhere on the island.
Roads wise, the TT circuit is the obvious choice. It's signposted all year round with orange signs telling you the names of the main corners. In the towns and villages you need to stick to the speed limits (the plod do use lasers there) but wherever you see a national speed limit sign there's effectively no speed limit. The only proviso is that you still need to drive safely, the police WILL nick you for dangerous driving or drink driving etc.
The mountain part of the circuit is the best, fast, open roads with no speed limit - totally awesome.
It's not that big a place really, just go there and find your way around.
And from memory there are two Shell garages that sell Optimax, one in Douglas and one somewhere on the road between Douglas and Ramsey.

By the way, i don't work for the tourist authority! I went to the TT for the first time last year with my cousin (in his WRX type RA), and it will be a yearly pigrimage for me from now on. My Scooby is already booked onto the ferry for this years TT.
Laxey is a really nice place to stay, very scenic and tranquil. May be a little too quiet for some though...
