All over the place UB - the brokers usually notice these things first. Rumours can start anywhere, but when the US and Saudi say they have a major announcement to make, the logical rumour is that it concerns Bin Laden. Will update here when i hear what the story is...

Tel - do you happen to work in a place that has the Reuters unedited newsfeed monitors in ? I worked for a few days in Canary Wharf at a hosting centre that hosted for Disney, FT amongst others and they had a smal B&W monitor with the direct news feed coming straight in.

BIN LADEN CAPTURE DENIED
US officials have denied rumours that the al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been captured.
Chatter in the foreign exchange markets suggested the chief suspect of the September 11 attacks had finally been caught.
The talk caused the dollar to strengthen as speculators moved in to make a profit.
It is thought the rumour was prompted by a forthcoming press conference between the US and the Saudi government.
"There was some rumor - the usual Bin Laden rumor that we had caught him again that came out, and some rumors of a joint Saudi Arabia/U.S. press conference ... which was an opportunity to take profits on the euro," said Grant Wilson, senior foreign exchange trader with Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh.
The two countries are due to announce "a joint United States action with Saudi Arabia in the financial war on terror", according to the Treasury Department web site.

Druddle, yep, all that and more. To be honest the news wires update almost every second, so it's impossible to keep track of all but the most important headlines, unless you focus on one sector relevant to your business. Generally we leave it to the futures brokers to filter out what's important and what's not!

LOL, none Rich, unfortunately! I've *actually* been quite busy recently - does it still not seem like it??!
Trying to find out whether this news conference is actually occurring or not - could be my most misleading thread since, oooh, yesterday...!
