M6 Toll road questions.......
#1
Hope this isn't SIAL, but I was wondering about the M6 toll road;
Its a private road, run by a private company for profit, so does the Road Traffic Act apply ? If I do 100mph on it can I get done, as its not a public highway ?
The Police patrol it, and they are funded by the public / Govt., yet its a private road. Does the company that own it pay the Police a chunk of cash to patrol it, or are the public paying for it through taxation ?
If I pay the toll to use it, but then get held up due to roadworks or an accident, am I entitled to my money back ?
These are just hypothetical questions, discuss...

I was wondering about some of these too,
If it is a public road then can i just point to my tax disk and say 'ive already paid'
And if its a private road, what jurisdiction do the police have ?

i was on there last wed night, on the smooth bit. i was doing about 110(kph of course!) in the wet and every road should be like that, i thought it was worth 2 pound for a test run but wouldn't like to pay every day.

I'm not! They've made it clear with the charging structure that they want cars and not slow lorries that take miles to overtake, blocking two lanes while they do so, and holding up their valued and lucrative car traffic. The last thing they'll want to do is discourage car drivers

I was on it last Sunday and either there is a private police service or it was fancy dress for the two cars parked on the hard shoulder.
It's a state adopted road guys - the private company build and maintain the road on behalf of the state in exchange for the tolls.
So be careful out there

If you are going to use it, then only go the full distance. Went down to the Autosport show in the van £5 going down, on the way back got on at the NEC end and came off at J3 to pick up some Defi guages and got charged £2.50. Then got back on at J4 and then had to pay another £5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RIP OFF MERCHANTS so using less cost me 50% more
