Following the recent thread, i saw a reference in a post to "cheaper online suppliers of genuine Rolex/Omega watches making a killing at the moment" or words to that effect.

Does anyone have any good links one of these places? I'd consider buying one as long as it was 110% genuine and the retailer was offering a bit of a discount.

Would probably be after an Omega Sea/Speedmaster or a Rolex Submariner...

Iwan,

Rolex Submariner?... ha ha - Mine's been on order now for 4 months, the normal waiting time for a brand new one of these is approximately a YEAR!

I'll be selling mine when it arrives, unopened with receipt, everything etc...

It was a maybe ten years ago, but I got about 20% off a Rolex for the missus from a high street retailer, just by asking. A couple of months later, I treated myself and got the same.

Last year, my son bought an Omega (the James Bond one, but not the 007 edition). Got 15% off.

I've just bought a Breitling. 10% off just like that. I think I could have got more but wasn't prepared to walk and wait.

BTW, the other Rolex thread was pathetic. Any posh watch is male jewelery and anyone who says otherwise needs a reality check. Would you dare talk like that about a lady's choice of bracelet? You'd get a bloody slap!

I only got mine as a replacement for a watch my father bought me for my 21st - It was stolen from me last year. I'm selling the Rolex because I can't warrant walking around with a watch thats worth a couple of grand - it's a watch for f***s sake!....

I'm used to getting a bitch slapping Hoppy- usually have to pay good money for it though

Back on topic (well almost) all this watch talk over the past few days has made me feel like wasting some money on a new Chrono. I've seen a reasonable looking Kinetic for a good price, anyone know of any drawback with these watches? Apart from their tacky image that is.........

Already have an 80's original calculator watch as well as a Casio "multi tune" in Silver that beeps the yellow rose of texas amongst other great songs. I was more interested in Seiko Kinetics if anyone knows anything about them.

Got mine s/h from New Bond Street. 1600 rather than 2200, 4 yrs old. They even "customised" it to my taste (different clasp and bezel).

NACRO, i'll overlook you calling me a ponce

But regarding Kinetics, i've got a Seiko Kinetic which i bought about 4 years ago in New York. They were selling for £400 at the time in the UK and i paid the equivalent of £220. To be honest it's as much as i want from a watch, very accurate, reliable, looks nice, not too flashy and wasn't too expensive.

I'd definately recommend them, in fact it's the only reason i haven't splashed the cash on an Omega yet - it's too good a watch to abandon to sit in a drawer somewhere gathering dust.

Question

Diablo, I have checked this site and the watch Im after, submariner bi gold, says 1 year waiting list. Ive sent them a mail to clarify if this is their waiting time or Rolex 'official' supplier time.

Bi-gold Submariner one year waiting? I don't believe that.

I've got one so always check shop windows to see what ludicrous price Rolex are asking for one these days. Defo seen one in Cambridge last autumn as I asked how much it would be to change to the newer, neater style clasp. "Sorry sir, you'll have to buy a whole new bracelet" was the official answer from Rolex. Which I'm 99% certain is bollox as the fitting appeared identical. I'm pi55ed off with Rolex's attitude to price and service - sent the missus watch off as the winder was fugged, they took three sodding months, and said the bracelet was worn out (check that on used watches) and £750 please to sort it all.

Anyway, rant over. I also looked at a Yachtmaster recently and was assured this was very rare and on a long waiting list. Strange, as I'd seen one in Oxford Street the week before.

Richard.

Thats if you're stupid enough to believe the hype.

Get yourself a list of UK authorised dealers, ring round, and i GUARANTEE you will be able to get a new sub the next day.

Cheers all. I think 'if' i decide to replace my trusty Seiko kinetic i'd be more likely to go for an Omega Seamaster (the James Bond one) than a Rolex. Mainly on grounds of better accuracy, less pricey and reduced bling-ness.

lol!

With a weak dollar I was actually thinking of importing a watch from the US.

Can anybody recommend an honest dealer who's unlikely to rip me off and will be able to supply me with a new Sub asap?

I have been wearing my Omega Seamaster Chronometer day in day out for six years with just the one service and it is superb. It gets some real stick. I wear it for diving & work (fire service) & the only damage it has had in all this time is a scratch on the bezel when I banged it on the edge of a kitchen work service. The glass is totally blemish free.
I was happy to spend that amount on a watch as you can see the quality but I reckon it is important to get a classical looking one that won't go out of fashion. Only then when it looks dated would it seem expensive.

Darren

dont have any links but if you do a search on the cayman islands, i bought mine from the top jeweler of the island (there is only one who sells rolex watches)and you dont pay duty on the watch so it is much cheaper than anywhere else, i happened to be working there at the time so was easy for me, at the time my watch was £3200 here but i only paid £2600 for it, remember when i was there, there was a 24crt gold tag watch and you coulkd buy it for £5k but the same watch in the uk was £10k

Closer to home, Costco knock out some quality watches at good prices e.g. Seamaster Pro Auto £800 odd, dunno if there's VAT on that, probably.
