Question

Can you use a passport right up to the expiry date, or do you have to have so much time left on it when you travel ?

Was thinking of Europe , not long haul

Thanks
Richard..

Europe should be ok although some countries may require at least 6 months to run on it on the date of your outward journey

Thanks, from past experience the 6 month thing tends to be long haul destinations, any idea how I can check the individual European countries ?

Thanks

if it's part of the EU you will be fine, anywhere else it's best to double check.

When I went to NZ, I needed to have at least 6 months on it.

For peace of mind, if you've under 6 months, just renew it. Saves any potential hassle.

I need to use it in October, it then runs out end of October. Between now & then I will travel frequently for work, so if there's any delays in renewing it i'm up **** creek.

After October I will have 3 months or so to get it renewed

That's my dilema + I can remember all those passport delays & few years back

Richard..

If you take a letter from your company justifying the need, you can get a second passport. I did. It means (for example) that you can go to Ukraine on one while the other is in the ?Chinese embassy waiting for the visa, as you need to come back and go to China a few days later. Many international consultants have two passports for this reason. Just costs the price of a normal passport plus of course the queue outside Petty France at 8am...
