You can get the connectors from Maplins (or even B&Q) and use standard coax. Did it myself for the cable TV box and it worked a treat. Another way for broadband is just buy a longer ethernet cable (if thats what yours uses).

Why is £50 a rip off? Think about it.

They have to spend time travelling to and from your house, time at your house doing the job, supply the materials for the job and pay for the vehicle costs of the travelling - I wouldn't like to do it for £50 and try and make a living.

£50 isn't a rip-off, but it'll only cost you about a fiver if you can be @r53d to do it yourself, like so many other things.

Tiggers, when they installed my broadband they only left the minimum of cable, and to charge an exsiting customer £50 yes I do think its a rip off.

Scoob99,

How much cable to you need ?? i extened mine from down stairs to upstairs and brought a tad too much cable. You might have to go and get the connectors but as said go to Maplin's there about £1 each.

When they put mine in, the installer asked where I wanted the socket, and I couldn't say, as the room was under decorators, (me: ), so he left it with enough cable attached so that I could run it to anywhere in the room.

When I asked how much cable I could actually have, he said "How much do you want?":

Scoob99,

How much cable you looking for? Are you moving rooms, or simply re-locating within the same room?

I experienced the same thing, so I went out and bough co-axial cable and the "proper" connectors, but unless you have the tool that the installers use to crimp the connector onto the cable you get a crap join, and a crap signal.

I phoned NTL and told them I wanted 5m of extension co-ax with connectors and it was ready for collection from their depot the next day.

If its only a few metres you need, let me know as I have several lengths lying around.

Cheers

I've just had a call from NTL regarding the replacement cable they are running from the end of the drive to the house. This is to fix a suspected split in the original which is interupting my broadband service.

Anyway, they told me they cannot find how the original cable run was installed and would I mind if they used the fence as they did not want to dig up the drive.

I agreed that digging was maybe too extreme so I will shortly have bright green cable sheath running the length of my fence.

Costs me nothing however you wonder sometimes if any of them know exactly what they are doing.
