Rome in August

btt
Any sensible advice appreciated, really looking for things to do other than the usual tourist attractions like the Colosseum, Spanish Steps etc. Good resteraunts, bars, markets, clubs, areas to visit, shops, things like that. Going in months other than August is now not an option, just wondered how people felt that had been during this month. I have heard all the usual nonsense about Rome being closed then and too hot
Thanks in advance

Roma in Aug is hot & sticky.
In Itay the whole country closes for Aug. and everybody goes abroad or to the seaside.
I used to live in Milan and if my w/e flight was a few days after Aug 1st then the city would be like a scene from a scifi film ie totaly empty ... very spookie
gawd I wish i could spoll

Hmm, I dont see how why full city would shut down just to go to the sea side

So, myths apart, what should I be looking for entertainment wise, I would use Google for this but I would also like personal experience and recommendations
