It's a great resort, I really enjoyed it. I'd say a train ride (on the narrow guage railway part of the way-dead slow) to Innsbruck is well worth it if you can spare the time from skiing.

Go have a beer with the locals at the little hut on the edge of the forest in the town centre, drink wheat beer and check out some of the other ski stations other than the Penkenbahn.

About 40 mins on the bus, well worth a trip too, I'd forgotten about that place. Another thing to do if you are in a car, or take a coach trip, is go to the grossglockner (I may have spelt this worng)an absolutely awesome road and view.

one of the first places i ever went skiing very freindly and very pretty.
The lift sytem was antiquated and there were a lot of queue's but that was over 10 years ago.

Mind you i think people who go skiing are pretentious wannabes trying to show of there non existant wealth : eh NACRO

....other ski stations other than the Penkenbahn
Good call. We were there 2 years ago when Holland empties for 2 weeks of national holidays and the Penkenbahn can get extremely busy.

Have a great time.

mattstant, it's only in the UK that skiing is an activity largely practiced by aspirational rolex wearing tossers. Here in France and in Austria it's the sport of the common man, you have a very blinkered and parochial outlook, small mind- small man

I've summer skied in June/July on the Tux glacier twice. Last time I was there they were building a new gondola - the Gletscherbus IIRC - up from the car park. Probably 15-20 mins drive (longer by bus) to the Hintertux car park from the village, then 10 mins or so up to the glacier.

Cross your fingers the other local resorts have snow when you go, if not the glacier will be mobbed.

Talking

I have just got back from Zell Am See. I can safely say that they were the best skiing conditions I have ever experienced.

Cheers

ahh, places of my childhood! When I was a wee lad we stated at Jenbach and took the train up to Mayrhofen, great place, I always remmber the sex shop on the main street and the cinema showing XXX films lol. Oh, this was in the summer not winter btw. However, facilitites did look excellent. Also been to Zell as well and that is fantastic, great lake for swimming in, but it's a might cold to do that at this time of year.
