Question

Has anyone done a First Aid at Work course?

I have the first two days of mine on monday and tuesday of next week and the second two days the following week.

The letter I have doesn't really say what is involved other than saying "Some home study is required"

yeah i've done one. if you've done any first aid, you wont find it extremely difficult. The stuff you'll need to read at home is info that you've learn during the day.

Different ways of helping people in certain situations etc.

Did mine with the Royal Berkshire Ambulance Service. The best people I have been to yet. As long as you have got a bit of common sense you will walk it

I'm a First Aid at Work Assessor, so i know these courses quite well
They are very useful and as long as you have some common sense you should be fine. The courses that i run don't require any home work and is all done in the classroom either with video footage, tutor instruction and then you get to practice on a classmate except for cpr and mouth to mouth obviously .
Enjoy it and it's good knowledge to have

You get to 'get it on' with Resusci-Annie. Make sure you are the first to go and not Bronchial-TB-Whooping Frank from stores.

My GF just finished hers today and got 100%! She is over the moon as it's the first course that she has done since leaving college quite a few years ago. It was the 4 day course with St John's Ambulance and she had to revise each night for small tests the next day. She was however revising what she had learned that day, and common sense will get you through (apparently!).

Top Tip from the GF: The 5 R's are a really good way to remember what to do once the ambulance arrives - Report (to the ambulance staff), Refresh (tidy the scene to clean any blood up!), Restock (the First Aid box), Record (the events in your accident book), and finally Relax (have a cuppa and get over the event!).

Anyhows, good luck with it - it's not tough - she really enjoyed it.

And if she can do it.....

It's odd, I use first aid every day I work but have never done this course. I have an equivalent National Pool Lifeguard Qualification but this was done over 4 weekends and only included about 15 hours of first aid training. Not really a major issue though as I have been doing first aid since about the age of 8, I do wonder about some other people though.

First aid is a great thing to have under your belt. Enjoy
