Exam System
Just finished doing my mock gcse's and got some quite good results apart from music.
Now I now that music is my weakest subject, but whoever wrote the paper should be shot. Before the mocks we did previous years papers and in the mark scheme, when describing a piece you would get a mark if you could name the composer in the description or a composer from the same time period.
However in this years mock paper the mark scheme for some questions which had "modernish/popular music" it specifically said do not give the mark for naming the artist/composer yet in the questions about classical music you would be awarded the mark for being able to name the composer.
Also wive outtellin anybody they decided to split then 19th century in to two musical ages 1800-1830 and 1830-1900 since when have people used these musical periods.
What a bloody stupid exam!

I already made my mind up last year that I wasn't going to put any extra effort into the subject, just my stupid school wouldn't let me drop it because my grades in the other subjects are high.
It's only a mock paper!!!!!!!
Take it on board and think about the fact that it may well turn up in the real exam like that and make sure you study / revise properly for it.
Don't expect it to be identical to the format from previous years. Remember, you are being taught content. If you know your facts and details, they should be able to throw any format of question at you and you should be fine answering it.

That's the way all teachers should teach you
If others aren't then there is something seriously wrong
Mocks are only a guide as to what sort of thing might come up. You'll probably find that you will know more (even if you don't think you do) by being taught the information rather than what you need to know for the exams. Whilst the latter may seem preferable for just getting the marks, knowing your subject as opposed to what to regurgitate in the exams will benefit you far more later in life/education, and should stand you in good stead for the exams anyway

Believe it or not there are only two subjects in which I feel I am taught to learn, being maths and music.
Sciences and English I am being taught to pass an exam. In fact science has gone as far as replacing text books with revision guides. Now maybe I could understand this if I was in a lower set in a comprehensive school, but I feel this is the wrong attitude for a grammar school to take.
