Hi All,
Decided last monday to quit smoking following a cold and quite bad chest infection. Have tried before with will-power only and failed miserably, so went to the Doctors and got prescribed "Nicotinell patches" I'm on the 14mg (Medium) ones as I used to smoke less than 20 a day.
6th Day now and its going well, of course I still get the cravings but the patches really seem to help. Even went to the pub on Friday night and wasn't tempted to light one up..
Anyone else out there in a similar situation, got any tips or previous experiences to help??
Cheers
Ali

Chewing gums worked for me for about 3 weeks. Really enjoyed the hit and in some ways where actually better than the ****.
Number 1 tip is don't fall into the trap a few weeks/months into thinking the odd 1 is going to be alright. It isn't. 1 *** on the odd ocassion just doesn't work, sooner or later you'll just end up buying a packet of 10 and you'll be a smoker again. You either smoke or you don't.
Gave up last August. Never again.
Good Luck.

I'm on day 6 with patches too. Finding it easier going this time cos I managed to stay off them for 2 years before (using Zyban, won't go back on them.. nasty side effects)
I also fell into the trap of the odd one here and there.. then a few with a drink.. then a couple during the day.. back on 20 a day before you know it.

I was a fairly heavy smoker until 7 years ago when I had to go into hospital after I fell of the roof! I had to stay in bed so could not smoke and later I decided to try not to any more.
It was difficult without patches etc but I found that if you want to enough you can do it and each day that passed made me stronger.
I positively do not ever want to smoke again now, in fact I feel a revulsion towards it which is good. Stick with it and I wish you all the luck.

Using the Nicorette 16 hour patch (medium) at the moment, seems very good, although initially disrupted sleep and some very weird dreams. But that was only for the first day or so.
Must admit they really put you off - thought I'd test myself today, went out with a mate for a cig break and even though he was smoking I didn't want one.
Will save me at least 150 quid a month! (once I'm off the patches as well).
Good luck to all others too.

Me and my other half decided to quite smoking last week, and to be honest we've both found it REALLY hard. I went out last friday for a drink and i couldnt help but light up! I found it really hard to sit there and not smoke so gave in to temptation. We've both been using nicotine inhalors which are good as its something in your hand, but as its pretty much pure nicotine it just seems to burn your throat! So i think the day i stop smoking will be the day i find out im expecting probably!!!
Good luck though, keep it up!

I'm on day 22 now and I must say I have found it relativley easy. What does make it alot easier is the fact my drinking buddy has given up at the same time. I did give up for a year and a half a few years back, but this only involved cigarettes and not the other form of toking..oops I mean smoking. This time no smoke at all is passing my mouth.
This morning I woke up full of energy, which for me I can tell you is highly unusual. Maybe giving up is starting to show it's benefits.

I gave up 4 months ago from 20 a day. Took nothing for it
2 things I did.
1. Got a scooby - can't afford petrol and **** so the petrol won.
2. Bet all my mates at work I would pack in, if I even lit a *** up in the 1st 3 months I would have lost £100.00 in total.
Is any *** worth £100.00? NO

I say again, when you stop smoking you are not giving anything up.
What are you giving up?
a drug that will kill you while costing a fortune.
Bl@@dy hell you are giving loads up.

Was a smoker for 10 years and have given up for nearly 5 months - just used willpower. I don't miss it at all, even after a few beers around smokers.
Feel alot healthier for it and now notice how much it stinks!!!
However you decide to give up stick to it - it's worth it!

I am currently reading the Allan Carr book. Seems to be taking me an awfully long time to read, maybe cos it insists that I must continue to smoke until I have finished the book!
I must admit though, it makes a lot of sense and is not full of the usual "cigarettes are bad for you, make you smell, cause infertility and will kill you" arguments. So, I will be taking the plunge imminently.

Allan Carr book is definetely the way to successfully stop (and I tried every other method under the sun including hypnotherapy)
Nae cravings or nothing
Just a happy non-smoker

Anyone seen that advert when they are sitting in the pub smoking and the fatty deposits start dripping of thier **** like ash. Yuk, I stoped smoking a few years ago but used to smoke when pissed etc. This advert has put me right of smoking.
