I know i am not the only one to mention this subject about front fogs .But they are realy peeing me off now sick and tired of getting blinded by these idiots. If i had my rear fogs on i would garenttee that i would be pulled .So whats the score with these idiots who put them on all the time it must be made a fineable offence. The police could broardcast it on tv and radio and if you are caught you will be made to pay on the spot fine . What do you think ?The insurance companys should also make it clear that if you are involved in a RTA your insurance could be in void <COUNTED 42 LAST NIGHT>

Most of them are set wrong - anyone ever failed an mot for incorrect front fog lamps levels?

They are never tested - therefore never get adjusted correctly

Agree - it is an offence punishable by death (or is it £30)

Mind you - if we start coming down hard we would get loads of people saying 'haven't thay got owt else better to do! - My house got burgled last night bla bla bla'

Until someone invents a little grey box that can either be mounted roadside or handheld by our beloved plod in order to detect these ********* I don't think you'll get any joy.

Still far easier for all concerned to keep the money rolling in from the heinous crime of speeding rather than try targeting any other offence.

tbh, I find xenon headlamps a bigger threat to road safety than foglamps

What actually defines what a fog light is?

Is it a bulb above a certain power? Or what? If you have your side lights on without main beam and have your "fog lights" on could you not argue that they are your main lights and that the others are fogs????

If you want to know why people are using foglights more now

read on

I think it is because mobile phone use has been made illegal so they need another accessory and they know the police dont bother about extra lights and no fine is involved so there you have it

I know you can be fined for fog lights but you wont be

The Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations 1989 define what a foglight is, the relevant area is on the link below.

I like other drivers to have them on, its an easy way of identifying a complete tool who will probably do something stupid.

The effect is doubled when used in conjunction with a private plate and smoked glass.

HI JASON Spoke to my insurance company about this they said yes it was a good idea to carry throw a way camera as all evidance is need for a fast resolve. They said that if i was in a RTA and there was a dispute over fault if they had fogs on at the time it would more than likly go in my favour .Made stronger by photos not all RTA are high impact you just the evidance that they had the fogs on when the weather conditions did not warrent them to be on <chris>

It's the ********* who drive round with their rear foglights on that gets my back up! They burn into your eyes then you can't see the brake lights properly. If I'm right behind them, why do they need rear fogs on, even if it's foggy?? They're to alert people behind you that they're there, so once someone is behind you, bloody turn them off!!

IH JASON Can i just add that although insurance companys will fight your case it is up to you the owner of the car to provide as much evidance as possible. Its you aginst the other CAR owner and the more evidance you can provide the stronger your case. ie he had is fogs on in good weather and i was temporaly blinded by them here are the photos case WON! <CHRIS>

The law states that rear fog light should only be used if visabiliy is reduced to less than 100 metres.
It ***** me off when theres a light mist on the road and some old codger in front of you slows down to 20mph with a pair of fog lights burning your retenas!!

The very worst non-foglight candidate is 4x4 pieces of **** which have xenons - i.e. those X5 wastes of space. Straight in your eyes. They should be paying at least triple road tax if they aren't using them in offroad etc places.

Don't have a go at the X5 - what else are M3 drivers going to buy their other half to ensure that everyone knows they're a **** no matter which vehicle they're in

I always find the worst offenders are middle aged mums driving the teenies around who get in the car and press every switch trying to find the heated rear window and have not got a clue they are pi$$ing everyone off with this crap that every car manufacturer bolts onto them to make them look trendy, pointless.

and then when you flash them they have that "whats going on" look slapped all over their chevy chase.

just my 2p's worth

HI JASON sorry didnt mean to come across as giving insurance lessons these were just facts that the insurance company gave me .But still the point is that if you ring your broker and ask them can i drive at night with my front fogs on even if there is no fog the answer will be NO! Go to the police station with the same and you will be greeted with the same answer NO! SIMPLE ! its breaking the law! To me it seems to be a fashion statement and coz they dont come on automatic .( you come across as saying it dont bother me i dont see what the fuss is about) well it does just read the posts. When i am driving with my wife i say plonker at the rear and yes not long before he or she is on my bumper with fogs a blazing NEED I SAY MORE !

What gets me with people who "forget" to switch off their Rear fogs (or front for that matter)when there is a light on the dash/switch saying that it's on.

Makes you wonder - if they don't see the light on the dash.....what else can't they see?

edit: not sure what language I was speaking when I typed that!
