6 yr old Sony midi CD player can't hold a track. Plays a bit, hunts, starts at a new one, hunts again, finds a new one, plays a bit, hunts again...
Worse with home-made CDs but getting like that with factory ones as well.
Is it just say a new part (lens?), which a leccy will replace for 20 quid, or is it something else which makes repair hopelessly uneconomic? (I assure you I won't be sending it to official Sony repair shops).
Cheers
Brendan

If its 6 years old, you would be much better putting the money that it would cost to get repaired toward a new one.
Not much get repaired these days in the electronic field - not like the good old days !!

Thanks guys.
Apologies, I omitted one very important detail - this problem has only happened since we moved house, and the midi block doesn't have a transport lock like my high-quality separates, so I'm going to assume it was something to do with shock/vibration during the move.
Richard, you're right in the UK, but here in Portugal it's still possible to get things done by a local guy very cheaply. My son pulled his mate's PS2 off a shelf by tripping over the cable, after which it refused to read. Sony wanted 118 euros just to look at it (oh, and send to Madrid thanks); we phoned around and finally got a local shop to do it for 45 (thirty quid-ish). No probs a year and a half later. I suspect we'll take it to the same place, if I can remember where the shop is.
