Want me to get in touch with some of the fire brigades for you? Would be a good excuse to go sharking.
Seriously though check out this website for plenty of excellent information: http://www.immi.gov.au/index.htm I think there is another one somewhere, but I haven't got the url at hand.
Cheers,
Chelle.

Hey Stefan,
Shins are getting better for sure. Been doing some mild training and touch wood, no real problems. Still a tad sore, but nowhere near as bad as they were!!!!!
My new problem is after being hit by a player from behind and also having been smacked round the face by one.
I have a problem with my shoulder that may take a lot of work to right.
How are things going with you?
PG, sure, I will get on the case. Still looking for that other link....but that site is the main one to look at.

The irony of it all.
My ancestors were taken there with no options, for reasons we all know too well.
Now then, if I want to go, with the same credentials, they say no!
Was good enough then...
PS. Paul, go for it!

LOL@yoza, aye.
Last couple of years they have really tightened up the immigration rules. It is now harder than ever to get over here. Nevertheless, it is well worth it.
I would still happily return to the UK, but I am enjoying exploring life over here.
Interestingly enough I am amazed at the amount of Aussies who keep asking me about the UK and Europe saying they would love to live in the UK. I just tell them to go, experience UK and Europe in order to appreciate what they have here. Each to their own. For some life in Australia doesn't suit them, for others life in the UK doesn't suit them. Go experience the places and make up your mind then.
Australia is a great place to be.

Hi 'chelle,
Happy New Year to you. Sounds like you need some self-defence training instead
My legs are great and have had no problems for the past 3 months. The combination of my new orthotics and running shoes have been a godsend. Plus 90% of my running is now cross-country, so it's a lot easier on my shins. I still do some fast or very long runs on some tarmac, but that's once a fortnight and gives me plenty of recovery time.
I'm now running at least 1 - 1.5hrs 3 times per week without any problems and it feels great.
Just concentrating on building my endurance and stamina, so focusing on time rather than distance. The new Hill Running Season starts soon and I want to do some of the long (3-4hr) races this year.

Happy New Year to you too Stefan.
Sounds like the careful training has really paid off. I have had a very good rest over Christmas with a two week break from any running, despite not actually doing any, I have been making sure I walk as much as possible in order to not get out of shape.
I will be getting hold of an exercise machine that simulates running, which means I don't have to run on the ground as even grass running tends to affect my legs, due to the ground being so damn hard over here due to lack of rain.
I am also getting a mountain bike soon which will also assist in my stamina.
That is the main issue I have, my stamina/endurance. I have got some good muscle tone and definition from some circuit weight training. Finally slimmed my stomach down, not quite enough IMHO but it is getting there. My legs have finally slimmed down to to the point where I have very little fat on them at all! You can see the muscle outline yet it doesn't look overly bad. I don't want to have massive muscles, but I do want some there.
It has been a lot of effort, the strict diet I have punished myself with has finally paid off and the training that I have done has been gruelling. Now I am more or less at a good basis to get myself into top peak condition so I can move on up the refereeing ranks.
The amount of times I have sat at a restaurant and nearly cried because of what I couldn't eat is too many! I have had to avoid eating out and literally sat telling myself off for even thinking of eating something bad. LOL
I am bringing my calories back up to 1500 now, was under 1000 whilst I was losing weight. Although I am now stepping up my training to ensure the extra calories get converted to muscle not fat.
Good luck to you.
PG, on a note of looking into the fire brigade, I know that when my mum was owrking for the mabluance service, some did an exchange program with the ambulance services in various parts of Australia. Have you thought of seeing if your brigade would do something similar? I could ask around over here and see which one would be best to get in touch with? That would give you a good period of time whereby you can test the waters over here before committing yourself to trying to emigrate?
Cheers,
Chelle.

Cheers 'Chelle
There is indeed an "international Firefighters Fellowship" and it is based in Melbourne iirc. I had the link with the application form and everything however the site I was linking through has changed and doesnt have a search facility
It would appear that my GF gets points-a-plenty but I dont get much at all. I want to get involved with "International Rescue" and do a lot with the "Mass Decontamination" stuff that is very hot at the mo but will find it hard to justify this to my present brigade and dont really want them to know the reason I want to do it is so I have more specialist stuff to **** off with ....anyway back to all these links and tests and points and ........
Anything you could find out your end would be very much apreciated but dont let me keep you from anything. Where in Oz are you anyhoo ?
Thanks again 'Chelle

Paul, just completed my forms and had a mate who works for fedex get the forms to Adelaide for me and the missus to immigrate.
Accredition to get Oz recognition of my trade took 3 months, it should have been 6 weeks.
I was being quoted originally 4 months for offshore application, as my skill was in demand, but not sure if this has now slipped out to about 18 months. Accreditation cost me 200 pounds about, and the visa application is about 700 UK. Its not cheap, could be about a grand in whole just to get the paperwork completed, valid and submitted. My money has gone from the account, so you lose that whether you get accepted or not.. fingers crossed and I am hoping to hear something by March 04 to March 05.
Good luck
Cheers

Sounds like the Oz government has just as many Cash Cows as the UK £1K just to be put up for consideration is shocking.
Can I ask what trades you have? PG, what about your girlfriends career?

Ozzy, been in ICT (as the ozzies and kiwi's call it ) for about 15 years. Got a Masters degree in Computer management sciences from UK uni 2 years ago, so had to have this and my job experience (letters from the company, Cisco certified etc)sent to the Australian Computer society, who then assess and provide an accreditation for use on the immigration form. I am in the words of the ACS, a systems designer in accordance with ozzy rules
The bigger charge is the actual VISA application for immigration, that was around 750ish UK, so i knew they got it from both the fedex tracking and the hole in the bank account.
PhilC, looked at the NZ site, it might be worth me considering.. bit complicated though , especially compared to the Australian immigration.. will have to work out the charges up front
Cheers

Stefan,
I am a Firefighter and do a bit of sparky work now and again but have no paperwork nor am I time served
My GF is a teacher (or will be in 6 months or so)
I was hoping to use the exchange thing as a foot in the door, we will have to wait and see I suppose.

Hi Paul,
Some of my relations emigrated over 20 yrs ago when Oz were screaming for people, now it's a nightmare to get into the place - it's not like they're short on space
I was looking to go travelling, but I've put that off until Summer 2005. Wanted to spend 3-4 months in East Asia, before visiting family and travelling around Oz for 6mths. Then I fancied heading over to South America for another 3-4 mths.
Work in IT myself and our sister company has a branch in Sydney, so I'd thought of getting some contracting work in Oz to build up some cash for the travelling around South America. Doesn't look that easy, but I'll need to speak to the branch for some advice.
My Mum's been thinking of emigrating, but it doesn't look like it's going to be straighforward. We're flying over in April (or maybe July) depending if my little sister gets off school, so I'll need to do some homework whilst we're there.
Good luck,
Stefan

NAF, **** orf ya pedantic feicer. you know what I meant.
PG, you won't be keeping me from anything, so don't worry. I am based in Sydney out in the North Western suburbs, a mere twenty minute drive into the beautiful city.
zilch, no I haven't plucked up the courage to do it yet, I am still pertrified of the thought of being up there.....maybe, one day. I know my bro is definitely going to do it when he comes out here and visits me again. Until then I am happy on terra firma looking up.
Ray, everyone here drives a scooby. LOL

I am a firefighter & have looked into moving out there as well. The reply I got off the WA Fire & Rescue Service was that they would look on my application favourably. But to get into Australia you have to merit high enough on the points system and AFAIK a Firefighter isn't rated highly over there (a bit like over here!)
