I'm doing some research into somewhere to stay on our Honeymoon in June 2004. I quite like the idea of a Villa with private pool in Tuscany but there seem to be so many different companies to choose from.
With it being such a special holiday I dont really want some bunch of cowboys messing things up for us - anyone got experience with Italian Villa rentals?
Cheers!

Rented one from the classified of the Times. It was a private deal.
Pretty much as described too, set in 28 acres of it own vinyard with pool etc.
Its well worth doing.
Next time I get one its going to be with:
Pool (obviously)
Huge.
Own cleaner and cook.
For at least 3 weeks.
Near Sienna, Lucca & Volterra.
If you can catch some wealthy person from the Times renting out their beloved Villa, its no bad thing.
Best times? May or September. Not too hot, but still nice and warm.
Ciao.

We went in June 2003 for honeymoon with vintage travel
Villa for 6-8 ppl (but only 2 of us obviously!) about 5 miles from San Gimigiano. Had private pool and plenty of room. Certainly can't complain, and their brochure is nice & large & colourful (but no different from internet site).
We spent the first few days before going to the villa in Florence at the Hotel Bernini Palace. This fantastic hotel was recommended to me by someone on Scoobynet, and was VERY central, has an amazing breakfast room, and the rooms have VERY good aircon (essential in Florence in the summer) - nice to have a chilled room. The hotel is 1 minutes walk from the Uffizi Gallery & square (where Hannibal was filmed), and 2 mins walk from the Pontivechio, and basically, within 10-15 minutes walk of ANYWHERE you want to be in Florence.
Can't recommend this route enough - get your few days of culture done in Florence in the first few days, and then veg out at the villa, with occassional daytrips to San Gimigiano, Volterra, Sienna, etc (the hilltop towns).
