Seen it all now.... Speed Camaera's spotting Speed Camera's
#1
Did anyone read last night's Evening Standard? The Met now have unmarked police cars filming people going through speed cameras. Because apparantly what they have found is that people slow down for speed camera's and then speed up and drive dangerously as soon as they are past them!
REALLY... this does surprise me!
If there is proof that speed camera's really don't work this is it.

I guess the key thing is that you mentioned "...and drive dangerously...". Dangerous driving should be dealt with, regardless - whether it's done above or below the speed limit.
If the Police are staking out (s)cameras to trap speeding drivers after they've left the camera 'zone', then yes that does recognise the (well known) effect that (s)cameras have (i.e. reactionary braking, followed by resuming the original pace). It's hardly a secret though, is it?

They used to do a similar thing with marked police cars - everyone slows down when they see them, and then put the hammer down up the road... only to be nabbed by the unmarked car!

Isnt the supposed idea of speed cameras to slow cars down at accident black spots? So, for that purpose they ARE working. If people decide to speed up after the "blackspot" then the police will be there to nick em aswell.
The question is... Are all cameras located at accident blackspots OR at revenue generating locations?

Saw similar to this in Stockport several years ago. About 200 yards after a fixed speed camera was a copper with a speed gun.
Just goes to show what a waste of time the speed cameras are.

The proof that breaking the speed limits at these points is safe is 2 million tickets being issued to people who then are still alive to pay the fine obvious not very dangerous is it!

Ah but it might slow them down next time they're driving that way and if they were speeding again it might cause an accident which might not have ocurred if they were under the limit but no way of proving that!
All ifs, buts and mights which means the scameras are here to stay

Saw a similar thing on the A90 Forfar to Aberdeen road a couple of months ago, but the police officer with the hand-held radar gun was standing (behind a sign-post!) about 400m BEFORE the fixed Gatso at Stracathro. Dead straight bit of dual-carriageway, no junction for half a mile in either direction, couldn't see the danger myself but I was heading south-bound at the time (which is why I could see him hiding behind the sign-post peek-a-boo!) Easy money.
