Whats the safest way to stop cats going through rubbish bags?

It gets fed at least twice a day and still chooses to rip the black bags to shreds spilling the contents all over the place. Is there a non violent way of stopping the poxy thing? Violent ways considered when the wifes back to work as she reads this BB!

I would do but it seems we produce too much rubbish for 2 bins and sod going through the food stuff to seperate it ...

If you regularly generate excessive waste - get some more dustbins.

Put the cat in a different room to the bin bags

Urinate around the bin bags to show the cat that they are yours.

Set up an electric shock system by the bags - the cat will soon learn to adjust to this
