All the millions Toyota have spent on advertising in the last few years, and all they needed to do was give a rusty old pickup to Top Gear and tell them to destroy it (or try to) !!!!
I wonder how many other manufacturers have asked Top Gear to try and destroy one of their cars....

Ok lets just clarify some of the things from the show.
I actually work for Toyota GB now and we had the Hilux after Top Gear purchased it to "check it over" we replaced a missing front prop and the rear prop as the U/J's were shot and a leaking clutch slave cylinder.
We did nothing else to that vehicle. The guy who you see getting it started works next to me and I have quizzed him about what happened and he said the only thing he had to do was rip the steering lock off and rewire the ignition after the water part.
He also had to straighten the rims with a large sledgehammer so that the tyres would hold air.
Once it had been set alight it came back to us and we just replaced the melted wiring and it was off again to the studio then after the show back in to have the fuel tank removed and then it was stuck on top of the building.
We saw it again after it had been blown up and the rims were "straightened" again and that was all that was done to it.
Toyota GB are over the moon as Clarkson came up with the idea for this himself with absolutely no prompting from us at all,I gather he really was amazed at how strong they are.
As a note if you looked closely at the chassis you will see the reason it split was because of the bloody great rollcage that Top Gear made and had fitted to the thing LOL.
Hopefully this will clarify what actually happened
Cheers
