In this current climate of spiralling house prices, it seems that we are getting less and less house for our money!
Where I live (Glasgow) the average price on a new build 4 bed detached with garage can be anywhere between £140k (not such a great area) up to £300k (better area)
£650k + for a penthouse flat in Glasgow city centre is not uncommon and 3 or 4 storey townhouses can fetch the best part of 7 figures!
Which town/city do oyu live, and what style/size of house do you get for your dough and rough cost?

Our 2 bed with Garage, decent size garden, good area, in close (so no traffic), cost £128,000 in Lancing (20 minutes from Brighton) the same thing could cost about £180,000 in Brighton. Crazy!!

This is one of the reasons I'm happy I moved to Canada. My rather nice 1 bedroom lakeside condo appt would cost aprox $300,000, which is about 133k, which aint too bad actually. A nice 3 bedroom house would be around the same price (my place is by the lake, plus 10 mins from downtown Toronto, hence the price).
For the price of my parents place, circa 200k for a 3 bedroom semi, you could get a rather nice, big, four bedroom place, and that includes a basement the size of the house, so you could no doubt add a pool room, or another bedroom or whatever.
My problem is that if I do have to come back to the UK, unless there is a price crash, I am fooked! won't be able to afford a place
