air strip (private one with no ******* planes)

without running the risk of being a kill joy, make sure you drive safely and get some experience, learn you and your car's limits.
untill you nearly kill yourself you will believe your indestructable - be carefull and good luck with your test.

Errr no-one is indestructable, and neither is your car.
For Christ's Sake, don't end up being one of those 'just passed my test' young drivers that ends up wrapping their first car around a tree or in a ditch within a week of being legal on the road.
Don't mean to preach, but being a fire fighter, I have to scrape too many young kids of the road who think that they are indestructable once they have passed their test. As my Dad told me when I passed my test about 9 years ago, now you learn to drive.
Just be careful!

He also said, the first time he took me out for a driving lesson "You are now in control of a lethal weapon, do not forget this"
Enjoy driving but do it somewhere safe if you are going to push the limits. You will f**k up at some point (I certainly did, very, very nearly spun a mini at a surprisingly low speed within a month of passing my test. Actually did spin my mum's Metro a few years later, and another few years after that spun my 16v Corrado twice. Fortunately in all these cases it was in circumstances where there was nothing to hit and I was able to just drive away, but it gives you a big fright. I now consider myself qualified to comment on lift-off oversteer!!) just make sure it's somewhere there isn't anything to hit.

Very good comment from little miss fire - my old man said the same to me too, after I'd passed my test. It's true too. You learn to "pass your driving test" not to drive in the real world, and you haven't got the benefit of someone sitting next to you, to advise you on all the hazards out there.
If possible, get some extra lessons after the test, with your instructor for motorway driving. I passed first time, but driving on the motorway for the first time in rush hour / in the dark / in the rain (or all at once!) is a bloody scary experience!
As for enjoying the performance of the car - track days is the only response anyone can recommend. Don't FFS go ragging through country lanes, as despite their "quiet" appearance, they're the most dangerous of all. Tight hairpins, farm vehicles coming out of hidden entrances, people walking in the road, horses etc.
Good luck for your test, btw.

Poor Guy, good luck with your test, but if you pass, please remember 2 things:
You know **** all about driving
Triumph GT6's can be lethal in the wrong hands
Does anyone else shudder at the thought of an inexperienced driver and the wheel of a swing-axle'd classic car giving it flat stick on the Yorkshire Moors?
Please don't become a statistic. I nearly did it in a MkII Escort and was extremely lucky.

Dont worry. I'll not going flying into a ditch and go flying through the wind screen.
Extra driving courses for me courtesy of mummy being worried about me having a fast car. But as Tiff says classics are good for learning in. Plus there always the fun of rear end roundabout antics at 10mph.
i hate being a learner. can't drive, can "drive" but not drive. not saying i know better than the instructor or anybody here but things like "you musnt use your gears to slow you down, use the brake" annoys me. driving like an old granny. arggggg!
wouldnt i get thrown off an old airfield? need somewhere off public highway for a few mid-winter slippy floor donuts.

As seen on TopGear a week or two back, treat yourself to a ferry ticket to the Isle of Man. No cameras, no speed limit outside towns. I'll be there very soon.
Good luck with the test, but if you're in the N.Yorks moors and see a silver Corrado coming towards you, please don't hit me.
