Don't know how far to go on this topic - I am sure we are all aware of what happened in a Sussex village that had been plagued with gypsies throughout the year??
They tried to drive out the bad luck of the gypsies by burning a caravan as a symbol.
Well, I see that the police have arrested some on suspicion of inciting racial hatred ............. I always thought the gypsies brought the hatred upon themselves??
As I said, I won't voice my mind too far - but are they right to be arrested?
Over to you!!
Pete

Thats nothing. I hear that the homeless carries weird diseases and stuff. They get all foul mouth when you refuse to give them any money and stuff and they smell. I say we deport the homeless people to Cuba. Why Cuba? Because its perfectly legal..

I take when you refer to gypsies you are refering to the law abiding, clean-living, friendly people. Who camp at legal sites, and if not, and when asked, leave with minimal of fuss without leaving the site like a rubbish dump.
I suppose that is a "true" gypsy, but what we get round here is nothing of the sort and are quite the opposite

pslewis has held a light to the tinder again....
oh well, here goes....
First some definitions:
* Gypsies/Travellers - people who live their lifestyle without causing misery for others.
* Pikeys - people who live their lifestyle and cause misery for all all around them.
Hence...
* Gypsies/Travellers - don't have a problem with them
* Pikeys - hope they burn in hell

In my experience "decent folk" do not get involved in ritual burning of effigies.
Small-minded @rseholes can live in thatched cottages and converted farmhouses as well as caravans.

There is a gypsie couple in a village near here who have the traditional caravan, shire horse etc.. and never cause any problems, even gives the tourists something to look at.
Pikeys however are theiving scum who smell and should be burnt in their caravans.

IIRC wasn't the caravan that was burnt in this inccident labelled "Pikeys" not gypsies?
Are the media/police/public so stupid to think they inciting racial hatred to law abiding people? I can't really comment as I was'nt there. But from the BBC report I read it was biased in one way from day one

Sorry but they bunrt effergies of p!keys. When did p!keys become a race? A p!key can be any colour as far as I am concerned so how can it be racial hatred? The majority of p!keys in the part of Kent I live in are always white so how can white people be done for hating other white people under the racial hatred laws?
P!keys should all burn in hell, they are leeches that plague this country and especially the south so it seems.
Gypsies are nothing to do with p!keys and should not be confused/assiociated with p!keys!

It's a pointless witch-hunt by the PC brigades who have, no doubt, never had to deal with a P***y invasion and are all too quick to play the race card.

As B20 said. I'd laugh the prosecution out of court. Pikeys aren't a race, they are a lifestyle. You can't have racial hatred against hippies either. CPS will have a tough job proving that pikeys are actually romany gypsies from central Europe, esp. beyond reasonable doubt as needed for a conviction.
The authorities have made themselves look stupid.

One less caravan on the road which can only be a good thing.
Bonfire nights and torchlit processions are a tradition here in Sussex. I would think maybe they crossed the line a little but to arrest them is surely stretching it too far.
Interesting that Grenville Wilson is quoted as saying there will be a full investigation yet it took him (well one of his officers) 4 weeks to reply to my recent letters about the recent spate of arson attacks on properties surrounding mine.... interesting you can burn your own caravan and the police come after you but if you burn other peoples property its not a problem... presumably on the basis you are more difficult to catch!
I wonder if P1KEY is available as a cherished number plate from DVLA?
Dave

Well, maybe I'm wrong; just spent lunch reading the Grauniad and it talks about gypsies, gypsies, gypsies, and oh BTW pikey is a slang word for gypsy. Hmm.
Someone has a sense of humour though - the article finishes "In Lewes each year an effigy of the Pope is burnt due to the town's history."
ROFL! Now THAT is incitement to racial hatred!

I read yesterday that companies are being advised to ban workers from wearing Celtic or Rangers football shirts to work. As these are seen as having a religous affiliation, an worker could feel threatened or intimidated and may sue the company for religous harrasment.
Just what is it coming too?

Who defines P!key as slang for gypsy though? Is this official or just down to interpretation?
Gypy to me is something completely different and from where I come from p!key has been around for ages and has always meant scum bags who take hold of private property, camp on it, treat it as a rubbish dump, terrorise local people and then move on 5 minutes before the old bill turn up with an eviction order only to go and park their caravans on someone elses car park/field.

I think its right they were arrested.
Cant be bothered with all that "we all hate gypsies" debate.
All I will say is I have, and still would socialise with gypsies/travellers. I dont have a problem with them, yet after saying that there are a few who are *****, but they are not ***** because they are gypsies. They are ***** because they are *****.
As a community they stick together and look after thier own, I respect that, and they dont react badly to stangers entering their way of life as you would expect.
Gets ready for another anti-gypsie thread.
