I had a philips dvd recorder (the first one which was made) which has died !
I want a new one which one do people recommend
Not sure if I should get another Philips one as they use a different format to the others (dont want to get involved in the equivalent of the VHS Betamax sega)
Must be 5.1

cheers

I've just bought a Panasonic DVD-R ..... Philips, as you say, are DVD+R.

Depends which way you choose to jump, I jumped to DVD-R which probably means everyone else should jump in with Philips!!

I was that person who bought BETA coz Sony were running it AND it was the best quality AND the cassettes were smaller ....... BUT then Radio rentals started renting out VHS only and the Beta was dead!!

They are so cheap now that it probably doesn't matter if you get it wrong - I see Sainsburys, is it? are doing a Pioneer for £199!!

Sony also have a Hard disc recorder on the way which has a dvd burner built in
You don't need to hang on. Pioneer already do one and it looks nice. Too £££ at the mo, but once it's around the £200/£250 mark in a year or so, Ima gonna getty me one

You could always use your PC as a DVD recorder. Whack in a TV capture card, showshifter software and a DVD burner.

Who in their right minds buy's something from philips!

Aparently the new Sony machine is a belter - a cheaper version has recently been launched which is near identical to the flagship model except in price (figure that one out!)

Sony also have a Hard disc recorder on the way which has a dvd burner built in - its said to be capable of ditching a 2 hour film you've recorded on the HDD to a DVD in around 4 minutes - and it's multi-region straight out of the box - I'm holding on for that one.

Agree with the Betamax comments - far superior to VHS. Looked on ebay to see how much you could flog a betamax recorder for a few months ago, and they were all fetching £100+.
