Question

Now that it's too cold to do anything in the garden (other than pick up leaves and bits of fireworks), I'm going to try my hand at water colour painting, and was wondering if anyone knows of any good sites online or books, that are particularly useful.

I'm completely new to it, but have been sketching in plain old pencils for years.

Any help would be appreciated!

I've been water colouring for years. I find it a good way to relax after a week of work, the key is to take your time and if its not going to plan, leave it for a day or so - nothing worse than trying to correct something and only making it worse.

Make sure you buy some decent paper too, nice thick stuff that wont wrinkle.

When you've been doing it for a while, experiment with masking fluid, excellent stuff for making reflections etc.

As for books, I have a few at my parents place somewhere but to be honest you're best off going to the library as they're all pretty much the same.

My other half is a skilled wild life artist in water colours. She used to paint professionally and it is a delight to see her work.

She advises a visit to a dedicated art shop and ask for advice, They are usually very good at helping you out.
