Question

I advertised my car on the net. I have had few e-mails from a guy who wants to buy my car for somone in South Africa. I told him I would not post my bank details and he would have to send a chq. He called me today on a very bad line (mobile from abroad) he then mailed me for my address and said he would post the chq out. Does this sound genuine ???

What scam can he pull with my name a work address ???

Exclamation

You even have to ask????? I wouldn't even consider it.

Someone's been ripped off by this before through the person using a stolen cheque. Have a search and you should find the thread...

sounds like it to me - do a search on here for ebay scams / car buying scams

i expect hes from the UAE or and African nation and will send you a cheque for more than the value of the car then ask for the difference back or something similar. The ruse may start with him saying hes buying it on behalf of his client and theres no need for him to view it etc etc

in fact, here's the thread - http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadID=256049

It's horribly familiar, isn't it? Report it to the police too - these people'll take others for all they're worth.

It's up to you. But cheques can be dishonoured after they have cleared.

Cheers lads (especialy chiark)

Just mailed him and told him I have sold the car.

Could have been genuine but by the sounds of things not worth the risk.
