You know the yellow and grey ones, with lines on the road, to take your pics and send a cheeky letter to you if you go too fast?

I keep driving past them (within the speed limit, of course) and my Bel Euro550 tells me they are not firing out any radar or laser at all. It keeps me fully informed about the gantry cameras on the M25, but I find it hard to believe that so many roadside cameras are just empty boxes, without the hardware inside. I know I should feel reassured that I am not being bathed in radar, but there is a nagging doubt in the back of my mind.

Does anyone know if most of the 'cameras' really are just empty boxes?

The majority are empty, but the % depends where in the country you are.

i used to have a bel 990i and it was the same .. eventually you'll trust it .. it never let me down.

Thanks, guys - I find the Bel very reassuring on the M25, but just could not believe all of these roadside boxes are empty. Better a deterrent than a tax collection tool, I say, which is the objective of them in the first place.

some are triggered by buried lines in the road thus there is no radar but still a camera.
