As he'll be out by the end of this week who should he be replaced by. I reckon David Davies seems like a good bet. Got a few good policies as well.
Or maybe bring back someone from the old school. Ken Clarke.
Chip.

Ken Clarke = not interested. Michael Howard is the name getting bandied about, but any 'old skool' Tory would be a disaster IMO.
I think IDS is still the man for the job. We need Letwin to be Home Sec.

TBH I thought William Hague and John Major were both better than IDS.
Ideally it should be the Clarke/Portillo 'dream ticket' that we should have had the first time round (Clarke as leader, wins election, hands over to Portillo at some point in the future)
Not keen on Howard or Letwin.
Prior to his recent "troubles" I always thought Frank Bruno would make a good Tory prime minister

That's the real problem - there isn't anyone
Creepy Crawley Letwin
Portillo - him with the good looks and dodgy past
Slippers "I love Europe" Clarke
Ann Widebum
Michael "Super Right Wing - bit of the night in him" Howard
Tim "nobody's heard of me" Yeo
Heseltine - now out to grass
Boris "Hairdo" Johnson
and so it goes on.
My bet would be on a Hague return?

Chris Patten......Of course he would need to be wooed away from that rather nice EU Commisioner's job and there is the small matter of him becoming an MP again....but apart from that....

Clarke and Patten are both Europhiles and not very impressive either.
Michael Howard would be as good as any and Bliar would be frightened of him at the Dispatch Box too.
They were stupid to dump Hague in the first place.

I really can't think of any mainstream Conservative who suits, Archie is Tunbridge Wells MP and his face fits party leader far more than any of the current possibilities. Apparently he has been tipped in the past to be heading for party leadership, not sure where those rumours originated from though.

Difficult one, can't think of anybody who can do enough to beat Labour even with their recent problems, there is no one strong enough to take them on, Hague was but didn't have the presence of someone like Maggie, who made some mistakes but at least had the courage to stand up for this country, whereas Blair is weak and spineless on these issues, a place in history is his agenda, and the cost to us, what does he care.
I can't remember the last time I saw him in an interview giving a straight answer, although that would probably apply to most politicians these days, Tories included.
Cheers
