They work on radar which does not need light to work and they have a **** off big flash on them so I would say without a shodow of a doubt that they work in the dark.

he aint talkin about Gatso`s though. He`s talkin about the mobile safety camera vans where the camera is facing traffic, so i can`t imagine they`ll have a flash. Have NEVER seen a camera van at night if that helps

I was thinking about this the other night as I was out for a drive. The temptation for the traffic cops must be enourmous, but can they do it?
I stopped and chatted to a traffic cop a few weeks ago while I was out cycling, and watched how he used his mobile laser gun to target cars. He looked down what to me looked like a telescopic sight on top of the gun, and pressed the trigger, then looked at the display to see what speed the targeted car had been going.
Now imagine its night time, your fave country lane, national speed limit, but your doing a "bit" more. Your lights are on full beam, and you've also got your converted driving lights on, so lit up like blackpool illuminations! How do you think the cop is going to feel looking down a telescopic sight at that lot! He will be blind after 2 cars!
I personally dont think that laser is viable in the night time, but I would like to know the official line on this

Saw one out in cardiff the other night at 2am and he had the window down firing at the cars coming toward him. Pi$$ed me off that much i felt like throwing something at the van. Next time i will. Its really starting to bug me now, all this speeding revenue generating crap.

Some body mentioned on SpeedtrapsUK BBS that the police in wales have got so much money they have bought night sights for the Vans and are working the M4 around the Cardiff area, obvious still money to be made at 2 am.

I got done going up a tree covered hill at dusk, so it was pretty dark. Not sure what they were using, but I guess it was a mobile radar. They just had it mounted on a tripod (was before all these van things!) and were pulling people over by the dozen!
