ive been around a few places and have noticed some really bad and good places to go and drive through.

bad milton keynes- didnt even make the centre there was a roundabout every 300 metres it was horrible

colchester- every one with 4 wheels will race you doesnt matter what theyve got they will egg you on

basingstoke- been ther 4 or 5 times and always end up coming in the town a different way that ring road is a nightmare

good colchester- has one long road through the town centre best ever for a letch, past all the clubs and pubs

sailsbury cause its so enclosed the flat four brings the city down

I actually enjoy driving through Milton Keynes, if you know your way you can stick to the national limit dual carriageways and make great time. OK there are a few roundabouts, but they beat traffic lights anyday....

Worst place, probably Birmingham for its combination of **** roads, and drivers with no ability. Even Cairo is more fun to drive in, at least you know they are all terrible drivers there. In Birmingham you get fooled every now and again into thinking people there can drive, then you meet a recent graduate from the Cairo school of motoring......

Good/Bad = Anywhere in Tenerife.
Some lovely scenic roads. Locals all think they are Carlo Sainz.

Replace the word "drive" with "rally" and you've got a good idea about the drivers out there

Stoke-On-Trent is bloody awful. Apart from London, I've never driven around such aggresive, selfish people. Even got rear ended by a guy who was turning right out of a junction we were turning right in to "sorry mate, thought you would have gone by the time I got there"

Bad - Bradford "Lets cut up the white bloke..."

Bad - Whitehaven - full of potholes and home to the narrowest bit of dual-carriageway ever.

Bad - area in the North East around a place called "Pity Me", someone must have had a load of roundabouts going spare.

Good - A591 Kendal to Keswick - v twisty, v. picturesque and ambleside is closed in so wind your window down...

Good - A66 Dual Carriageway (heading west) alongside Bassenthwaite lake. Has too be one of the best bits of road anywhere!

I have to say that Milton Keynes is one of the best places I've driven in (except for Wales that is).

In 5 years of living there I can honestly count the amount of times I've been stuck in traffic on my left hand. If you know the place and chose your routes correctly then you can steam round like it's a race track (all within 70mph though). The road surfacing is excellent and is mostly dual carriageway so overtaking is a dream.

And don't forget that MK spans a much larger area than just the city centre so if you want twisties then they're on your doorstep too.

Despite what most peeps think MK is an excellent place to live too, if a tad sterile, but that's another thread

Cheers

Type-r

Bad - Lincoln. Crappy roads and gridlock.

Very bad - Bari. Mental.

Very very bad - Naples. Just plain fooking scary

Good but getting worse - Leeds. Speed bumps everywhere

Very good - Around Elgin and NE Scotland. Long winding and atraight roads in good condition, no speed cameras and no police.

Messiah

You're right it was (amongst other things), hence the amount of roundabouts and dual carriageways.

Commuting is a real breeze. My partner has to travel about 10 miles to work which takes about 10-15 minutes. That's an average of about 50mph which is pretty good compared to most normal towns.

It has it's downfalls though. Going round roundabouts at 40mph doesn't bode well with tyres esp when they're £100+ a corner

Going round roundabouts at 40mph
Why so slow? I feel I've wasted a roundabout in MK if I don't manage to get round at at least 60!

Still, there's always another one soon!

The problem is when you DONT know where you are going! The sign posting is cr&p!

Bristol is pretty bad, the traffic is appauling and if you don't know where you are going you are screwed because you have to get in lane miles before the sign tells you which lane you will need, then nobody will let you in!

I'll agree with FP, Naples is horendous, I aint lying when I saw I dont think I saw 1 car without a scratch or dent now thats is sooo bad, remember sitting in a cab there and in the right lane of 4 lanes, lights go green and the taxi driver cuts up EVERY lane and turns left... scary!!!!!!

Milton Keynes is pretty good even at rush hour.

The Bicester to Thame B road is fantastic (if anyone knows where I mean)

Hey Goochie, I know that road *very* well - use it for car and bike, um, testing

Beirut was interesting to drive in as well. Similar to Kabul but the other drivers wanted to shoot you rather than just claim off the army.

LA sucks for driving, and the traffic cops are too petty to describe. And they have no sense of humour.

New York City makes London seem like the countryside in terms of traffic jams.

In the UK I'd say Oxford has to be the worst. A town run by a council that hates motor vehicles.

Milton Keynes is good - I like it for the same reasons everyone else has said. Basingstoke is OK on a bike, or used to be anyhow.

Rome (if in own car) BAD
Rome (if in hire car with all possible waivers and CDW and extra-super CDW and waivers against everything else already paid for) GOOD FUN. Only FUN if you drive like the Romans though, show any hint of bottling-out and you are history

Paris is the worst place Ive seen for nutters driving about - it is literally every driver for themselves. Roundabouts with about 8 lanes but no markings.

Worst: Greater Manchester = Speed Camera. It's a shame because there are some great roads over the moors (tops) but there are just to may speed camera's, including the type that clock your average speed (name?). The run from Littleborough to Halifax used to be wicked (again over the moors and going back a few years!).

Best: Another vote of MK, round abouts are great fun, but it's a shame about your tyres!
