Question

I am bidding for an electronic item off Ebay. The seller is "techworldsg" which is listed in Singapore. Preferred payment methods are Paypal, Western Union or Bidpay.

I am really dubious about this as i know loads of people have been ripped off by people bidding for this sort of thing. How safe is Paypal ? I usually use Nochex for stuff in the UK.

If you don't mind me asking, what are you bidding on, and is it high value?

I have found that small(er) items such as Secure digital memory cards (etc) are safe, whilst the bigger "bargains" to be had are just scams.

Having said that, I've <touches wood> not had to deal with a fraud from over that neck of the woods yet.

I think as Paypal is Credit card you have fraud protection.

I think, I have heard that yes you can easily pay money into your Paypal account via credit card and then send it to someone else - but that is not the same as paying someone by credit card - the purchase protection is only valid if Paypal themselves rip you off and they offer no guarantee with respet to thethird party.

Does the seller accept Escrow?

If he/she does then there's no problem.

Make sure its a genuine Escrow-type company (YOUR choice) and not one made up by the seller for a quick scam (which is what we're seeing more and more)

Paypal is relatively safe, You can file a complaint and get your money back easily enough as long as it is filed within 30 days of sending the money.

I've never had problems with Paypal either, though some people charge extra to receive money by Paypal because of the charges.

Paypal is now owned by Ebay - so shud be safe ( I prefer to use it for overseas purchase's). If you do buy, remember to make an allowance for import/vat costs

Any idea how long on average it takes for money paid into your paypal account to get transfered to your bank account?

I sold something on ebay, I've had confirmation that I've been paid, can see the money has been transfered to my bank, but no sign of the money in my account yet....it went through last Wednesday.

Am I safe to send the goods now I know that payment to Paypal has been made?

Read this from "The Register" if you think a Paypal guarantee is worthwhile

Thanks Dave

Looks pretty good. How much did you have to pay for customs tax?

Its a bluetooth GPS receiver. RRP in this country around 280-300 quid. Have bid nowhere near that yet.

The user has had alot of good replies and some bad ones. WEbsite for the user is http://techworldsgfaq.bravehost.com/

Thanks

Dave
