Hi,
A region free DVD means that it does not have a region code on the disc, therefore it will play on any DVD player regardless of what region code the DVD player is.

Not judging anyone but am I the only person who can't see the point in pirate DVD's
I paid loads of cash for a 46" screen and DD/DTS sound system so the last thing I want is to save a fiver and watch and listen to some ify copy. Yes I know that they are on the streets before the legit DVD's but its not long to wait especially if the region 1 dates are early.
I'll admit I have tried a few but other peoples views on what is "Top Quality" seem to differ from my own.

PS.
Just to clear up.
A region free disc will play on any machine although some machines will only play genuine discs.
A DVD player that is region free or set to region 0 will not play the region 1 RCE discs from the states as the RCE (Regional Coding Enhancement) discs check to see if the player is set to region 1, if the player is region free or 0 the disc won't play.
If your thinking of importing region 1 DVD's to be sure you need a true multi-region player or a region 1 player.

moses,
Made the link Clicky
You will find that most budget players can be hacked, in fact some players from China and Korea actively promote this. Even Richer Sounds in the UK give you a hack sheet when you buy it.
Some hacks only allow you to select "No Region" rather than a specific region so that won't help with RCE DVD's. Higher end players from the likes of Sony and Toshiba etc are hardware locked so won't allow a software hack.
Multi-Region specialist such as Techtronics will chip players such as these and save messing about with handset hacks.
Personaly I have a high end region 1 Toshiba hacked by techtronics and a cheapo Acoustic Solutions player with handset hack from Richer Sounds. The tosh will not play copies or MP3's etc and the Acoustic Solutions player plays anything you throw at it. The difference in picture and sound quality on genuine DVD's is understandably huge.
