Car insurance, need help/advice quick!!!

Mods please leave here for a while.

I received a letter this morning from Tesco motor insurance saying they had cancelled my policy due to non payment of august's car cover.
I immedialty went to the bank and got a printed statement proving that it had been paid and faxed it to them. The payment is direct debit so automaticly gets paid.

They are saying that even though it proves iv paid it, they wont re-issue my policy [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img] because they dont have the payment from august!

need advice? threaten legal action? what to do?

Ask them for thier official complaints procedure, inform them that you intend to take your case to the financial ombudsman.

they have just called me back saying they have sent there direct debit codes to the TSB to prove they have not received payment which could take upto 7 days!!!
Now im stranded in York and need to get back to manchester by monday!

They also advised me that unless its there fault then they will continue my policy but then also added that i should seek another insurance company or start a new policy with them as mine has definatly been cancelled. [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

sod em, there loss, just got a better quote with TSB, £200 less than Tesco a year.

I would be inclined to get to the bottom of this if I were you as one of the questions normally asked by insurance companies is "have you ever had a policy cancelled or denied". You dont want to end up being penalised in the future for their/the bank's mistake.

all i want is the monthly direct debit back! the band say they have paid it to tesco and tesco say the havnt received it so where is it?
