time clocks at work
#1
My works time clock is almost five minutes slow. I finish at 5PM and there is a queue at the time clock. It was 4 minutes past five real time so I just jumped the queue and clocked out (time clock = 4:59). Does anybody know where I stand legally on this? Can I be docked, or even sacked? The way I see it, I'm paid till 5pm. So it's not my fault if the clock is slow. It's been like this for a few weeks now, management are aware of it but are doing nothing to fix it.

If it's proven that you're clocking in, and starting work, minutes early (by the work clock) at the start of your shift, then I don't see you'd have a problem. Providing you've worked your contractual hours, then legally you should be ok.
Just don't think it looks good, cos if you stopped working 'say' 5 mins early (by the work clock), you wouldn't actually be clocking out early. However, they may logically argue that to be at the clock 5mins early, you actually stopped working minutes before that.
Is it worth it ?

Time clocks???? They were almost always slow when I worked on the local Steelworks as a youngster:
Remember one night queuing with another youth, waiting for it to change.
When it went to 4pm, he punched out with a flourish, and went through. Unfortunately, he hit the clock so hard that it expired with a weird groan, and refused to punch any more cards.:
The old guy behind us in the queue, looked over my shoulder, and then said to his mate: "Well, fookin **** me. The fookin ******'s fookin fooked it!" Still makes me laugh 30 years hence:
