its in one of those long bubble lamps in a conservatory. water has been boiled in a kettle beforehand but the stuff just keeps on comin...

You should use distilled water. We used tap water in ours at first and the water kept going green, used distilled water and it's still crystal clear 18 months on.

cheers notorious. what exactly is distilled water ? i thought cooled boiled water was classed as distilled ?

Distilled water is when you boil the water and collect and condense the steam. The steam when condensed is distilled water. What you have is boiled water most probably with a higher concentration of impurity than when you started, though, it would be safe to drink..........

Buy distilled water, (also called de-ionised) from car shops, where it's sold for batteries, or from supermarkets, where it's sold for steam irons. DON'T buy the scented stuff:
