Have a trip out to Chester races tomorrow.

As I know not a lot about the gee gees, does anyone have any links to any good sites. I know I will lose my money but would rather do so by picking horses that aren't just there to make up the numbers.

I have never been before, is there a minimum bet with the course bookies? I was thinking £20/race?

Cheers

Should tell u on the bookies board, also there is max win payout limit, eg may be £5000, so if u try to put 10K bet on and its accepted he will only pay out upto £5K.

Be carefull & read what each book-makers terms are.

Cheers Rich

best advice would be watch for horses who's odds are shortening quickly, e.g. getting lower. Thats usually a sign that it's being backed heavily locally, which potentially mean's someone knows something. Its only slightly better than picking a name you like though

Just enjoy the day out, put aside a bit of money you don't mind losing and class it as part of the day's costs. If you win anything then that is a bonus!

As far as backing horses where the odds are shortening, then to us professionals, you have missed the value and it stupid to bet on odds that do not represent a value price.

At the weekend, Spuradich was available at 4/1 early prices, on the course it closed at 13/8 fav. Anyone backing at 13/8 was getting real bad value. Those who backed at 4/1 were ahead of the game. The fact that the horse finished last and lame was beside the point, the people who had backed the horse at 4/1, ie value odds, know that in the long run, they will make money.

But if I were you, set aside some cash and enjoy the day!

Try the racing post site, www.racingpost.co.uk/horses.

Also Chester is a unique track and not all horses can handle the course. So look for horses that do well at Chester, course specialists tend to do well. The Racing Post site should have all the cards for tomorrow and all the info you need.

Yeah, just set aside some money you know you can afford to lose, and it you end up winning, you'll be happy. You can put whatever you've won (if any) during the day all on the last race.
Unless you really know what you're doing, just pick something you like the name of, or the colours, or the jockey or the trainer or something.
Tote will usually accept £1 bets, whereas an independent bookie will usually have a minimum bet of £5. Don't forget an each-way (places pay out too) bet costs double - so £5 each-way costs a tenner. Each-way is often worthwhile on horses with slightly longer odds (say >15-1).

I have only ever been once to an evening meeting at Haydock.

I simply watched the bookies stands for horeses around the 15-1 - 10-1 mark and when they started to move to say 8-1 I'd bet £20 to win at whichever was still giving me best odds.

Six races - 2 winners - spent £120, won £380 - a good evening's work.

Funny thing was - got no buzz out of it whatsoever. Same as when I went gambling in Vegas - didn't do a thing for me. Good thing is I'll never become a gambling addict I guess.
