Question

I can't seem to find it any cheaper than £100 per person return from Manchester Picadilly to London Euston on October 25th. Is this right, or am I looking in the wrong place?

look on thetrainline.com

you should be looking at less than £50 return per person, especially as you're booking in advance

Apex Return = £30.00 if you book at least 7 days in advance (I think it depends on whether you name your return date or leave open).

F*cking ridiculous that we have to pay taxes to fly within our own country, can just about stomach it for going abroad but not internal.

I used to travel from picadilly Manchester to watford on virgin values.

£18.00 return, you have to book 3/2 weeks in advance and name the time going and coming back and weather you want a table etc.

When they have all gone the nexted price is only £5.00 more.

I often do Stoke or Stafford (& return) to Euston at short notice, so no chance to book.

It's £65 or £75 each way on the 'peak' services. No wonder people don't want to travel by train...

Go on the Virgin Trains website.
I booked a return journey, Sheffield > Southampton, and got it for £52 including first class upgrades, by booking two singles.
Should have cost me £132!!!

That's a "gricist" comment mate. Any more of that and Simon will lock the thread:

Travelled from Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston last Monday

2 adults travelling first class return tickets - £122 all-in

That was booked via Virgin value by the way

and the first class upgrade is well worth the extra cash

NO, you DON'T phone 'em, they'll tell you owt.

Get onto that website, and look out for "two singles" offers.
The ones I booked were for my Dad's friend, and were booked 6 weeks before she travelled.
