I won an auction at the weekend,but have now changed my mind.I offered to pay his listing costs,but have asked him not to give me any negative feedback.

Has anyone else not gone ahead after winning an auction,what happened?

You are talking about broken contract. You have contracted to buy the goods at the price agreed.

Depending what the item was, if someone did that on one of my auctions I would most likely leave negative feedback and would probably look at recovering costs...

You shouldn't just "change your mind" - it's an auction. Others will have lost out on the item because of you... That sounds a bit like "go to your room and think of what you've done", but you deserve a slight chastising

Sorry if that sounded a bit harsh, but you've wasted someone's time and effort. I think you've made a mistake and you either should buy the thing or reach an amicable agreement with the seller - offer to pay the fees as a start. Don't lose sleep over it, because realistically there's not a huge amount they can do other than have your ebay account closed and try to find your details from ebay... But that would be a waste of time for all but the most **** people.

yep - re-registered under a different name as it was my first 'win' so didnt really bother me!

bidded too high as didnt really understand the auto bid thingy - waiting for the negative comments on here - so bring it on!?

It was for three items of furniture.I won one but lost the other two.One is no good on its own.
I did point out that the reserve on one item was £400 and me and the eventual winner bid it up to £630.
I've offered to pay costs.

Only sale ive not gone through was some prat who wanted to charge me £6 to send me 2 12" records.....Claimed 2 records wouldnt fit in a single mailing envelope (ive had 5 in one!)

Other than that- dont bid unless you are prepared to buy....

It's that behaviour that makes ebay a complete pain for sellers.

Saying that, I've received one lot of negative feedback on a car I won a few months ago.

A mate wanted an old runabout for his old man and I bid on and won a G reg Pug 205TD that was described as VGC, no oil leaks, no rust, full MOT and 101k miles.

Went to pick it up and it was fooked. For a start it had 166k on the clock, a dodgy MOT cert (not embossed), 4 slicks for tyres and a crack down the windscreen.

The **** left me negative feedback for walking away.

I agree.I do feel bad about it to an extent,but people do change their mind,thats life.
What i wont do is spend £550 on something i'm now not sure about.If i get grief over it so be it.

You could always pay up, get the goods, and immediately re-advertise them on eBay. That way, you honour the contract so the seller is pleased, you get the opportunity to recover your outlay by selling the goods on, and no-one else on here will call you a git for trying to renege on a contract.

I just recieved a very blunt email calling me a timewaster and banning me from bidding on any of his items again..........i know i deserved it.

Also accused me of asking too many questions on a previous item and not making any bids.Just because you make an enqueiry doesn't mean you have to bid on it,does it?

I once turned down a £200 item after winning it, I offered £25 for the inconvenience of having to re-list it, the seller accepted and left me positive feedback. Everything stayed polite and professional. I had just bought an identical item from the seller and realised I didn't need a second one. I don't use eBay very often, and the number of purchases is less than 10 so I could quite easily have buggered off and done nothing.

I have sold one item on ebay and bought about 10! The only thing that pisses me off with it is the length of time some people take to get in contact with you and send the item.

I won a bid last tuesday for a Haynes manual (bizarrely enough), the seller took 3 days to contact me, after I had already paid him through paypal, then said he couldnt ship until Monday this week. As of this morning, it still hadn't arrived. I think that is sh1te service frankly and it pees me off.

The one time I sold something, i contacted the winning bidder within 1/2hr and sent the item the following day recorded delivery etc. Service that i would expect. However, you have no idea if someone is slow or fast before you win!
