Eat less Although eating nothing is excessively keen, anorexics aren't attractive either.

1. Eat less cr@p
2. Cut down on sugars (check everything, even orange juice and yogurt)
3. Jog twice per week for at least 20mins (grass or soft ground only). Increase time over several weeks (say an extra 5mins every week or two). Then add another jogging day after say 4-8 weeks depending on how your coping with jogging. Jog slowly, slow enough that you can easily hold a conversation. Don't worry about distance, that's not important, the amount of time you are exercising is.

Try working up to a long steady run of 45-60mins over a few months and eat sensibly. I'll guarantee you'll lose weight

You'll get fitter and firmer too

I would agree Paul, but speaking personally it's usually a bit of both. I used to use the excuse that I could eat and eat coz I was working my *** off, then wondered why I couldn't shift the inch of my waist

Sugar is probably the #1 fat store in people's diets. That's one reason why Mr A's diet works so well coz you cut out carbs and therefore cut out sugar.

A sensible diet and plenty of regular exercise (becoming a **** star won't work Mikey ) and anyone should keep their ideal weight.

Make exercise enjoyable - go for walks with family or play some sport with the folk @ work. It doesn't have to be a gruling 10-miler in the pi$$ing rain.

Having said that if someone joins a slimming club and the meet new friends which helps them achieve the same results then good on them.

Just don't make huge radical changes to your lifestyle. That's why most people join gyms and never stick at it longer than a couple of months - it's just too dramatic a change. Introduce diet or exercise changes gradually and make sure you enjoy it. If it's a chore it'll never work unless your stubborn as a mule (or determined )

It just makes me laugh all the folks at work trying to lose weight, then they use the lift instead of walking up ONE flight of steps.

if you drink a lot of fizzy drinks - swap them for apple juice.

theres stuff in it (cant remember the name - pectin?) that when you have so much of it in one go (ie a full glass), it goes directly to your muscles to feed them - hence you dont feel hungry as often - so your less likely to "snack".

doesnt give drastic results but I lost just over a stone in 2 months.

but apple juice with sugar in would not be good though....I have unfortunately had to watch what i eat for health reasons....its been hard but i lost half a stone with no extra exersice...i wasn't wanting to loose weight but its encouraged me not to eat fatty sugary foods...mind you just come back off of holiday so need to get back to being careful !

i do not agree with dieting as i dont think it works unless you stay on one for ever...just eating sensible..it's amazing how much sugar/fat and salt is hidden in everyday food!

Went to my first Slimming World Meeting last night! I'm going to give it a go and I'm also going to have a go at jogging (although last time over did it and knackered up my knees, ankles and back, so taking Ozzy's advice!!)

Quite looking forward to healthy eating, just need a little 'push' to start me off! I'm a real McDonalds, fast food monster!!!!!

Thumbs up

Remember to start very slowly and only concern yourself with time and not distances. Only jog on very soft surfaces like grass (absolutely no pavements or tarmac) and keep good posture (head up, back straight).

Jogging and running on soft ground works your leg muscles harder and helps strengthen tendons, ligaments and the supporting muscles around your joints.

Long, slow runs build strength and endurance. They promote fat burning and build stamina into your heart, lungs and muscles. They are the key to any running programme.

These runs should always feel easy and comfortable, it's not until afterwards that you feel it. I did a 2hr run on Monday and felt like I could have done it again, but 30 mins after I'd stopped I felt completely and utterly knackered. I even started to fall asleep in the bath

Anyway, the main point is keep it slow and go for quality over quantity. Add time to your jogs and not miles or km's. Watch your pace and keep it slow to burn fat.

The circuit training book is ideal to compliment your jogging. These are fantastic all-round conditioning exercises. They'll certainly help strengthen the muscles and ligaments around your knees, ankles and lower back that will help prevent the injuries you suffered from before.

Oh, and make sure you warm up and stretch before and after any exercise. Don't stretch cold muscles, jog around for a couple of minutes first before doing any stretches.

Good luck,

Stefan
