And still going strong. Amazing to think this album was made over 30 years ago. It spent 741 weeks in the charts in a time when you really had to sell many times more records than you do today to be in the charts.

Dont think Gareth Gates, Robbie Williams and these modern bands will have this sort of success. Do you?

Chip.

I fooking hope not.

I couldn't stand looking at RW's self-satisfied, smug face for that long.

Cool

Downloaded a live performance from 1972 (before the album was released) at Earls Court the other week. Also got a rare mp3 - darkside of the moon master recording 1973.

Best album ever made. No doubt about it.

TIME
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older
And shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone the song is over, thought I'd something more to say.

Just superb

The members of Pink Floyd were educated people. Their music reflects that. Robbie Williams on the other hand is a thick ignorant lout. End of comparison...

maybe, but he is a rich, thick ignorant lout. $80 million for signing recently.

Anyone know of a good MP3 source for this album?

You cant compare the two.
Robbie is just a pure entertainer, and having watched him on CH4 at Knebworth a few weeks ago, thought he was actually pretty okay.

Three folks from work went and thought he was brilliant.

Pink Floyd are a group with something to say,......what,i'm not always so sure.

I agree whole-heartedly!! I never tire of listening to Floyd, but Dark Side is definitely their best album!! I only hope they get to do 1 more tour before they go to ground for good! (Although their music will NEVER die!!)

DS they're best album?

ok, its great but, surely surely Meddle or Delicate Sound of Thunder?

Come to think of it is it even possible to pick out just one 'best' album out of the works of Pink Floyd?

How can it be recorded in 1972 with Comfortably Numb as an encore?

That's an obvious question, and one that I asked after I read it and thought about it.

In fact Roger Walters says to the crowd at the end of DSOTM "that takes you back, doesn't it" So clearly *not* what it says on the can.

Still, it is very good, and has lots of Claire Torry on it.

Bloody hell, 30th aniversary already?? I remember 9 years ago they released a special limited edition of dark side of the moon for the 21st aniversary are they doing another??

It amazes me when I hear the album how un-dated it sounds and how in my opinion Floyd were well ahead of their time!!!

I bought "Echoes - The best of Pink Floyd" when it was released in 2001 i think, excellent album!!

PF, the Daddies , their CD's are never out of the car, Pulse disc 1 at the mo
As mentioned on a previous thread I bought the 30th aniversary SACD of DSOTM, for anyone with an SACD player or a DVD player that plays SACD I highly recomend it, all laid down in 5.1 and it just blows you away, close your eyes and you think da Floyd are in your lounge, especially Time, WOW
it has to be one of the finest recodings i've ever heard.

Rumours abound that Pulse will finally get a DVD release before Christmas, and for anyone who sayd get it off e-bay, forget it they are all fakes, it has never had an official release anywhere in the world according to PF themselves, I'm suprised they have'nt realeased it, it would sell shed loads !!

UB, does you "Live in 72" also have Run like hell and Wish you were here on it?? that would make it the DSOTM disc from Pulse?

Dave

PF rule. I NEVER tire of listening to "Animals", which must be one of their most under-rated albums.
I remember seeing them in the early 70's in Birmingham: made your hair stand on end!
