They decided that everything was grinding to a halt and now ask staff to ring each other up.
I do wonder if it has improved or reduced efficiency. Sure, sending documents etc is fantastic, but you have to read so much rubbish to find the mails that are relevant to what you do. And how much is just chat that used be done face to face or over the phone?
Interesting decision.

Wonder if they've also knocked Scoobynet access on the head
It is interesting -- internal email can be a pain in big companies -- although it also smacks of the type of capricious, half-arsed management decision that John Caudwell (MD) is notorious for. He reckoned an average saving of three hours per person per day ... which I find very hard to believe. I work in a very email-intensive sector (PR) and ALL email takes less than 2 hours a day, even though it's vital to what we do.
I liked Charles Dunstone's (Carphone Warehouse MD) comment, which was something like "We trust OUR staff to be able to use email properly". I know three people that have worked at Singlepoint / Phones4U, all left as soon as they possibly could 'cos it's horrible, apparently.
Edited to add that if people don't chat by email, they'll just spend waste more time at the coffee machine / water cooler / in the bogs. I reckon it's just moving the problem around, not solving it.

Having shared a building with part of 4U, I know most of the staff spend most of their time skulking round the car park on a *** break. They usually stand the otherside of a solid door and then moan when you open it into them
The staff also have an inability to read to understand which bit of the car park they can and can't use.

Used to know someone who worked for Phones4U, was reasonably high up too. Quit because it bored him to tears and set up his own company, must have been paying well because the company wasnt making much money and had high outgoings, yet he still lives in a rather nice house....

Here what your saying. I used to work for that company myself. Unfortunately I have yet to escape the group completely. Interesting to see what happens next with this one. Considering the company I currently work for is trying to stop using paper and convert thing electronically. Including Internal E-mail.
